 Re: Dfishkeepers W/C Ikola
only reason my question would have offended is if the fish were infact bad fish. if it wasnt then wouldnt a normal person laugh it off and try to explain to some 1 that obviously has no idea what they are on about. im looking at spending a few $k on moba and currently own 2 moba just trying to find out more info on "frontosa" before i out lay big $. no where did i ever say the quality of these fish were bad. all i did do is ask a question, im sure my member join date could have helped some of u know it alls figure out i know nothing.

 Re: Dfishkeepers W/C Ikola
What I have noticed with alot of mooning on Fronnies that I have kept has been stress and surroundings related, I purchased 12 Ikolas off doug a while back now, and stress them too the buggery when i selected them out and they showed no signs of mooning. When I got them home and put them in there 6ft tank they all had one bar on both sides that had a moon in it. The tank had white substrate and had no paint or background. I then put the in another tank just to try something, a dark substrate and the tank painted black on the back, I put them in and no mooning. I did the same thing this week with my Mpinbwes they had mooning while they where in there 6 foot so put them in a tank with drak sides and background and black substrate and they are stunning no mooning at all, so that is what i have put it down too.
Cheers Matt

Well u see, I am bald. I am not a bad human. But if someone went, hey Baldy. I would be offended. Funny how people want perfect barring, no marks etc. Yet it is a perfectly natural in the wild. How about make positive comments on the fish? ps; if wanting more info, you went about that the wrong way. Very nice specimens Doug, gee they have grown. Hope all is well. Frenchy

 Re: Dfishkeepers W/C Ikola
Awesome looking fish Doug. You sure have looked after those big guys.
I find that allot of the fronts when small can have mooning in the middle bar but as they grow the moon starts to disappear. Something that I have noticed in my Mpimbwes. Now the males are 20cm+ and females 12-15+cm 99% of them don't show any mooning.
As Frenchy said they are wild fish. I have seen 'wild' fish come out of quarantine with Y bars and massive mooning. In the wild you can't stop fish breeding and having Y bars or an extra bar on one side. It's natural. There is no god there to cull one or two that aren't perfect.
Sometimes I think we are just too quick to judge a fish's quality before we have thought about it. For many years we had only Burundi's (if you could call them Burundi's, more like Aussie 6 bars) and they were all line breed to produce perfect bars and to increase the amount of blue in them. Reality is, in the wild nothing is perfect.
I hope my big guys get to a size similar to that of Doug’s.
Adam

I have some of Doug's F1 fry. This is what they can look like when they are about 22cm and a couple of years old if you take really good care of them:

 Re: Dfishkeepers W/C Ikola
Yea Brengun, you gonna need a bigger tank or they will never get to 30+ cm, plus they will start fighting, and its never a good idea to split them into smaller groups, I did this with 7 bars and had a world of problems, the dominant males only seem to get more aggressive in smaller tanks with smaller numbers.
Grum.
