I had my 25 cm Blue Dempsey with it i took the fish out and removed the core with tweezers dabbed a bit of melafix on it with a cotton tip and treated the tank with melafix it was healed in a week. more water changes and aeration will help heal and prevent further. This is my experience with Dempsey

Ok, this is not my tank nor my fish but you say core? is it actually a bug / parasite that burrows?

off topic, how long did it take for your blue dempsey to get to that size? would have been years i would imagine.

Mostly due to poor water quality, malnutrition, stress etc.

If you take the fish to the vet (or know someone) you should be able to get metronidazole tablets with dose rate.
Or try to source some clout tablets, i have a couple from a member on here and TF awhile ago.
if anyone is interested PM me and i'll give you his username.

I had a pair of Afrcan shellies with it a few years ago, started out like small pin holes around the forehead then turned to bigger holes. Both fish died.
