  1. Hi Jwood sorry for giving you a 'top of the range' example...didnt mean to but im hoping you get the idea All you need is to have a GOOD 'ATS' + an Generator with Key Start AND have that hook up to run just for your fish room --> this is a full proof option that will last you till the day you stop fish keeping! Other alternatives: UPS --> the larger the better UPS --> run on deep cycle batteries Batteries + Good Charger + ATS + Inverter to pump Solar pannels + Baterries + 12v pump (hiblow got a 200 big gun run on 12v) 12v Pump + batterries + inverter + main power not sure if there are other alternatives, feel free to add! Warning: on UPS ON CAR BATTERIES see this video
  2. hi jwood what you need is an ATS 'Automatic Transfer Switch' that required a sparky to hook it up for you. since you already had a good honda inverter i suggest you to go back to your local honda shop and have a talk to them to see what option you have and ofcourse your budget. Things like this is what you need

  4. I have not read through the whole thread but IMO Breeders = Males + Females PLUS fries to prove Pair = Male + Female + no guarantee that they will breed so buyer beware As far as breeding Vs age of fish concern, I have yet found a study that able to tell me at what age do fish STOP breeding. So the suggestion that fish will stop breeding at old age is nonsense. 'Define' old age in fish? I have had my Tropheus Moliros for more than 6 yrs and still shag all day long. The Previous owner had them for at least 2/3 yrs. I have seen yellows that shag bugga all after one yr. I have seen fish that bred for the previous owner but yet bred for the new owner I have seen fish that never bred for the previous onwner but bred for the new onwer I have seen fish that never breed at all The above examples tell me that there are MANY contributing factors and to simply just say 'fish don't breed at old age' isn't prove anything.

  12. just wondering if the cloudy bit happen just after ur water change? reason for asking because i think you might have chuck a bit too much prime in the tank i dont use prime i use Sodium Thiosulfate crystal and my water get quite cloudy when i put too much in cloudy = look a bit like when you add ouzo to water --> is that the colour your referring when you say cloudy? when this happen i usually do a fifty change again and all fish seem to be ok...water clear up a few hours later. some chemical reaction going i think...but water parameters seem all good....LOL
  13. i have seen a fronny that has 6 bar in one side and seven bars one the other so what does that tell you? i've also seen some that had only five bars...LOL anything possible...a shag is a shag, cant really watch them 24 hrs can you? Anyway, if you can and want to breed fish for resell etc...try to aim for species only tank! Then select the best to breed with the best and so on.... On display tank...who give a toss, its your fish...you keep what ever you like!
  14. rule of thump: if it fit in the mouth it will fit in the mouth you should put the young one in a fry saver + air stone and raise them in there!
