  1. What's the best way to clean pipes with? I'm thinking rig an end of a bottle brush cleaner to a long piece of wire? Does anyone use 100% sodium percarbonate to maybe soak them for a bit too? Tips please 😊 Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Yeah he stalks me all day and splashes about when I go past him! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Haha ok good to know thanks rhysl, he had 5 cubes of frozen mealworms today all up. We switch between frozen and live food. What did you feed yours rhysl? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. How much on average would a large Oscar eat? I'm feeding Fred every day but he is constantly acting really hungry, and goes nuts whenever anyone goes near the tank wanting to be fed... I just gave him 3 cubes and still hungry, worried I'm not feeding him enough now (he has only just started doing this) but don't want to over feed either. Any tips? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks, yeah will be using ply under the steel support frame. Will post updates and pics as we go. Not as worried now that I realise the whole structure underneath the house is steel. I knew our stumps were steel but thought the joists were wood but glad they are steel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I should say floor joists are 20 inches apart, stumps and joists are all steel the tank will span out over about 4-5 joists. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Everything is steel, support beams 20inches apart so I'm confidant with a steel base built and marine ply on the bottom to distribute the weight evenly it should be right, it will sit across about 5 of the steel house beams, along an external wall. Getting the steel in a couple of weeks, already have a sheet of marine ply 😊 Anyone know a good place in Toowoomba to get a hood made at a reasonable price please pm me. Cheers. 8. Scored this and a eheim pro canister for $100 😄 can't wait to get it going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Ok thanks JayPee, we will probably still put a frame around the bottom just to be sure. Need a hood made too :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Miscounted, has 8 legs... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah I'll be adding rocks and an old tree stump. It will only have 1 oscar so no plants cause it's a waste of time lol he just shreds them to pieces. Think we will put a steel frame for the bottom but the OH has a welder and can make it but thanks for the lead Brenton  I'm still going to be so nervous filling it lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Wondering if we will need to put support beams along the bottom of our 6x2x2, which has 6 legs on the stand, to even out the weight as our house is on stumps. Scared it will break through our floor. I estimate our tank will weigh at least 600 kg once filled. Any thoughts/tips? Also going to enclose the area underneath, will share progress pics as we go. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I like the idea of the sump but another reason I'm not using one is I don't have room underneath. What canister were you using? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Still wondering if there is anyone on here who is currently running a marine tank using eheim pro canister? :-) would love to hear your experiences. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Ok I'll just try to go with the easiest to keep to begin with. I realise I will be limited on numbers due to tank size and don't want to risk over crowding. I'll just start with the clown fish and then slowly add to it :-) I do like the banner fish so I'll get one of those instead of the moorish then and maybe just one tang then and leave it at that. Is it better to get coral first then the fish or vice versa? Cheers Donny. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Not yet, still trying to determine whether or not my eheim pro can do the job. Since I already have that I am going to give it a go and if it doesn't work out then I'll set up a sump. Not sure what chiller brand to get so any recommendations is more than welcome. I don't want to connect it to my eheim pro if I can help it. I'm wondering if I can use an internal filter for the chiller? Rest assured, I have plenty of patience and won't be adding any fish or coral until I am completely satisfied with the tech and everything is running smoothly. I will be taking my time researching everything. Budget won't be an issue but in saying that I'm not going to go out and buy the most expensive equipment either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Also want to add some coral too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. The bigger tank looks great. Can't wait to see some more live rock and fish. Good on you for braving it and setting up a sump. What made you decide this? How was your canister going in your 3tf tank? Did you run it in the new tank before installing the sump? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks for those tips Michael and Brittany :-) Donny, at this stage I only have a few on my list... Clown fish Black and white ocellaris clown fish Blue and yellow tang Shrimp, snails Moorish idol? If it will get along with the above? Not sure what else at the moment, still have some work to do on the other tank, then once my 4ft is empty and I'm ready to begin set up I'll look into a couple more species then. Just a 'basic' reef, nothing too hard to keep as I am just a beginner :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Anyone use this brand for a marine tank? And up to what size tank can it handle? Would I need a second filter ? And what type of skimmer would you recommend? We just got a 6x2x2 ft tank that I plan on putting our oscar in and was thinking of setting up my 4 ft tank into a marine tank. I'm thinking my eheim classic and jebo canisters will be enough for 1 oscar in the 6ft tank and my eheim professional plus a skimmer in the 4ft? Any thoughts? Cheers :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Hey. Good luck. Will you post updates? Have been thinking of finally embarking on a marine tank and would love to see how you go with it. Are you using a sump or canister? That's one thing I am still trying to decide before I start. Oh and what size is your tank? Cheers :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Lol mungor. A part of the family. Love it. It was pretty cool to witness something like that Donny. Not every day you get to see that, for us anyway. :-) live action haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Haha looks like he is enjoying being 'in the limelight' everyone look at me. Thanks for sharing. Your oscar is beautiful :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Was at the aquarium shop yesterday for supplies and stood watching the marine set ups as I always do, dreaming of having my own one day and saw a Duncan's coral with a clown fish half stuck inside one of its mouths. The poor clown fish was history. A friend who is a marine biologist said this is quite unusual as they generally eat plankton and other smaller creatures. What other strange things does everyone's fish do? I love how they all have their own little personalities. My Oscar has a love affair with the hose every time I do a water change lol quite funny to watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Ok thanks Donny. Yes his old tank was very high. A little over a week ago I knew nothing about looking after fish but I have taken over the care of our Oscar now as no one else was doing it. Surprised he is still alive (and well) to be honest. Yep tested the tap water and it's all 0. Might just do a 75% water change tomorrow instead of 50%?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
