  1. Hi mate, From the sounds of it, you have excessive nutrients in the water column and low light levels in the plant spectrum. So it sound like you might have filamentous algae which is light to dark green normally but can be white when there is low light in the aquarium so the algae can't produce a lot of chlorophyll. Now this isn't bad for the aquarium but it isn't the best looking. How often do you clean the tank including the sand substrate?

  15. [MENTION=15239]wadedidit[/MENTION] the root tabs should be fine. As val are root feeders i would push them into the substrate around 5cm away from the plants or in between. I would still dose your excel too as well as use some liquid Co2 to give your plants the best chance. When i get home ill take a pic of my vals. They are going red at the top because if the intensity of the lights and getting really wide and long
