  1. So how did this stand turn out? I recently had to rebuild a stand and luckily had some panels that I could salvage. Interested how you finished it off?
  2. Hi all Just wanted to post my diy effort of rebuilding a stand. I had a store mdf stand as part of the aqua one package. My filter must have leaked as I noticed that the mdf was swelling. I panicked and immediately broke down the tank and moved the fish to my second tank. It had 500kg of weight on it and I didn't want to be cleaning that up. I managed to salvage the doors, top and side panel. I followed the online guides and built a new internal frame from structural pine. Recladded the frame with the salvaged panels. I think it looks the same so mission accomplished. Cost about $120 for timber and paint. Let me know your thoughts.
  3. That's normal fungus from bacteria, if you haven't boiled them then you get this. I would always boil wood to be safe of killing any harmful parasite etc Never done bamboo tho Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk

  9. Personally I would try grouping them up as one mountain range and have a path of low growing plants to the tree at the bottom of the mountain. I know this destroys the iwagumi design but worth a try. End of the day its a personal preference so go with what your happy with. Sent from my F1f using Tapatalk
  10. Any updates on the final design? Sent from my F1f using Tapatalk
  11. Found a good post here: https://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/threads/self-starting-siphon.120952/ Might just move my tap on my hose so its lower than the tank and this might solve my current issue.
  12. It might be best to use the two taller pieces together on one side and the smaller ones on the other side in three. make use of the width of the tank too. Looking good, Whats your stocking going to be?
  13. yep that's mine, see the diy journal here: I spent a few months planning and finding the rocks, the key to this is dont rush just wait for the right rocks and leave it set up for a few days, if your happy with one design after a week thats the one you want to use.

  19. Thanks all, seems like it's not going to be an issue. If its a heat wave have frozen bottles off water or a fan pointed to the surface.
  20. It's northern facing under the deck upstairs so in full shade all day long. No direct sunlight so algae shouldn't be a problem. I have a 300w and a 100w heater I could put in it for winter so temperature should be ok. I'm more worried for summer as keeping it cool is going to be hard.
  21. Hi I'm thinking of moving a 3 ft tank I have outside I live in Brisbane. I was wondering what the pros and cons are for this and anything that I should consider? I.e. water getting to hot especially when it's hitting 40c . Etc.. see pic for proposed location. I normally keep tangs so was thinking of doing a planted tank with just some tetras. Open to stocking suggestions. Thanks in advance.
  22. Just an update on the tank and the stock. Tank had a break out of black beard algae but his has been minimised by the Ophthalmotilapia ventralis who went mental and stripped it back to the rock. Lost some of the killifish, these fish are very sensitive . Managed to swap some paracyprichromis nigripinnis juveniles for Ophthalmotilapia ventralis who add some great movement to the tank as they swim around the open areas. added a few more juvenile paracyprichromis nigripinnis too. equipmemt update: added a wave maker and water skimmer to remove excess oil from fish food.
