Kalo1993 got a reaction from crusty76 in Black shark
I took my black shark out of my pond during maintenance to get a measurement and take a few pics and noticed lots of reddish scales on it. Is this a normal thing with age or is something wrong with it?

Went on a moss buying spree and ordered Peacock, xmas, rose, cameroon, mini pellia, willow, weeping and red moss so here's hoping at least some will survive the warm Qld summer.

I have found if I get algae growing on my moss, I reduce the lighting. The moss may not grow fast in low light but it tends to survive ok. The algae on the other hand has a real light threshold, go a bit lower than it likes and it all dies off leaving the moss nice and clean

Dont take temperature too much into consideration. they grow well in most, or all conditions that you would keep your fish in.
Some grow faster with co2 and better lighting, but all you really need is light.
I have a tank at 22 degrees and one at 26 degrees which is my warmest tank and all sorts of mosses are thriving. (No Co2)

Only thing you should watch out for is algae growing on it.

If youre looking for better mosses, be prepared to pay a higher price if you buy from retail, or just buy it cheap off other fish keepers.

Quality LFS and quality fish (mainly cichlids ) are in trouble but the hobby as a whole is not, just check out the facebook pages they are in constant action. What would really improve the hobby would be for the government to relax the the importation laws which are pretty stupid for example why is it legal to import L168 plecos but not L201? does an L201 pose more of an environmental risk than a L168? i highly doubt it.. I understand some species are banned for good reason ie. Nile perch, Piranha but as the list stands now its ridiculous and hurts the hobby and only promotes illegal smuggling and over priced fish.

Bigger is better...  i would definitely recommend against a nano as keeping them stable as a beginner is a nightmare.. anything 3 feet or bigger would be good.
