  4. Yes it seems to be a common occurance that Plecos and Otos like to clean up this slime. Snails also.

  7. Yeah I agree is hard to quantitate, so was wondering what the average times were for other members who have experienced this. Had assumed it would likely clear in a few weeks. I don't really want to disturb the tank to clean as it would likely return anyway until the driftwood has been removed of available nutrients.

  10. I'm aware that the bacterial bloom "white slime" you can get on new driftwood is normal. I'm not too concerned about appearances at the moment and happy to let the slime run its course. I am interested to know members experiences on how long the bloom generally takes to clear up?
  11. As previously mentioned I had decided on a mix of Eco-complete and Flora Max. Eco-complete comes mixed in the "black water" and required no washing. The Flora-max was essentially a dry version of Eco-complete and required minimal washing to remove the very finest particles. You could wash the material forever and it would never clean up entirely, but with the finest material gone it settled quickly. Flora Max also came with little packs of Bio-magnet clarifier which helped with the suspended material. Overall I'm very happy with the product and the dark substrate looks great. Just hope the plants like it.
  12. Interested to see if the Flourite continues to cloud up when disturbed. I decided to purchase a mix of wet Eco-complete and dry FloraMax by Caribsea. Need to wash the dry FloraMax so will see if I have a similar experience.
  13. First trip to AOA today! Fantastic store with a great range of products. Customer service was the best! Staff really know their stuff and were really enthusiastic the help. Was definitely worth the trip over there and I will definitely be back.
  14. Fair enough! Thanks for the feedback.
