  1. Quick query - what cord lengths are there available in some of the more reasonable quality 200-300w heaters. I am having difficulty tracking down info. I believe Aqua one brand is 1.8 m. What about others? The longer the better Thanks all

  4. Are you referring to an aqua one canister filter? I'd prefer to have it in an internal filter or hang-on filter so it's easier to access to regenerate or monitor its condition. In a canister I would (just my own preference) have it near the very top instead of one layer of ceramic noodles/matrix or one of the top sponges. Peter

  10. Beautiful oscars - very healthy looking. You obviously have looked after them well and taken pride in your setups. Thanks for sharing
  11. Purigen and Macropore are both great stuff - love it. Highly recommend it. I personally don't like putting it in cannisters because at some stage you have to go to all the trouble to open it up again to get out the macropore/purigen bag to regenerate it with bleach etc - you also can't visually monitor its colour to determine whether its ready or not for regeneration. I prefer to use it in a hang on filter where you can see how black it is getting so you know when to bleach it. Alternatively I use a bag (or two) in an internal filter that is easy to pullout and check evry so often. Sumps are great as you can see the purigen/macropore's stage of expiration quite easily. Whatever filtration method/device you choose - macropore /purigen is excellent. Peter
  12. I tend not to be too pedantic with the sponges / hard media etc from the canister. Just a couple of squeezes in the bucket of tank water so as not to remove too much of the good bacteria. I'm always paranoid I'd go overboard. I've never ever cleaned an impellor - always too paranoid I'd break it (fat thumbs of mine and my philosophy of "if it aint broke don't muck with it" ) - may consider doing it though on my next canister cleaning adventure as a preventative measure - thanks for the reminder / idea. Peter
