  1. There are salt and fresh water glass shrimp, you can catch salt ones in rock pools or around rocks close to shore. Shouldn't feed lion's fresh water fish as they will not get the right nutrients/ proteins and will eventually die. Suggest doing a little research on feeding lions.
  2. Live gold fish by any chance? Goldfish are bad. Try some live glass shrimp to entice and or cheap damsels. And if he starts eating again you should ween him onto frozen foods like prawn, squid, fish etc. Worst case, like mine he just stopped eating no visible signs of distress , injury or disease. Couldn't even get him to eat live, lasted 5 weeks without touching a thing. Researched and asked about but all I found was on rare occasions they just starve themselves. Could be something internal don't know. Good luck hope he pulls through. Shane
  3. How long have you had him? Is he been feed on frozen? What have you tried?

  6. Watch your nitrite doesn't keep rising. I'd suggest drip acclimatise over 30 - 40 min period. i.e place fish with lfs water in a bucket and drip aquarium water in. Gives the fish plenty of time to slowly get use to your water.
  7. Emporer Angelfish and Mandrin both need a matured tank and are better left till you have a bit more experence. Also how do you introduce/ acclimatise your fish to the aquarium? Where the fish all added at the same time? Can you post test results, and what filtration do you run? Do you run a chiller?
  8. Hi, White spot in marine is alot different then freshwater. I'd suggest doing alot of research on it as there is many different views on the cause and treatment. Reefing The Australian Way Forums • Search I have used hypo treatment and while it worked initially it came back with a vengance 6 months later with no new additions. I believe it's always there and rears its ugly head when your water quality is out and/ or fish are stressed. What has worked for me is good house keeping, good diet with garlic added and uv steriliser. Have not seen it for 18mnths now. Reefing The Australian Way Forums • View topic - UV Kills Cryptocaryon I'm not saying this is the best way only it has worked well for my tank, read up plenty and decide whats best for you. Good luck and I hope your fish stay upright. Shane
  9. Does anyone know where on the Gold Coast I can get my Haliea 1000a looked at? Started tripping the safety switch this morning. Cheers Shane

  11. If it won't sink attach it to a piece of perpex (cable tie, super glue, silicon etc) and cover perpex with substrate.

  18. Goldenswimmers, I built mine up in stages, Pulled down my 6 x2 cichlid set-up and sold off bits I couldn't use. Had no tank set-up for 3 mths, but had a big tub with base rock and some live rock to seed it. Saved heaps doing it this way. ( I spent $40 on live and now have about 80kg from this process) While waiting for the rock I watched the forums and ebay for gear. Picked up a $200 skimmer for $40, 4x2x2 sump for $30 was only used for a month, etc. "Watch the forums and ebay is the best advise and take your time" Reused my T5 lights with higher output tubes, bought wavemakers 1 at time over couple of months but tank was cycling so wasn't an issue. Anyway if you take your time and buy secondhand quality gear it's easy to set-up a 6 footer under a grand. My biggest cost was a new tank as it's going to stay in it's spot for a long time and I wanted peace of mind for years to come. Also if FOWLR get a good skimmer, most important piece of kit imo and as Liquidg said a good prefilter system. Good Luck
  19. Better off weening lionfish onto fresh and frozen, takes a few weeks of patience but better for the fish in the long run, then you can feed live feeders once in awhile. I feed mine live yabbies and bait fish now and then, but main diet consists of frozen and fresh marinara mix soaked in garlic and vitamins.
  20. Yes Sebastion is still at Burleigh, nice little store. Sad days for the coast, I remember 15 yrs ago when we had 3 stores alone at Southport, one at Runaway Bay, Mermaid Beach where the old cinema was another on the highway, Aquarium alive at Nerang, Bernies and I'm sure a couple of others. Use to make a day of it! Big loss when Mick and Leanne shut up shop. Also does anyone know if Mick is still making tanks?
