Looks like the floating islands of Elephant Ears have already got themselves sorted for my Billabong make-over!

    Death in the Billabong
Sorry cobbers, there no easy way to say this - Grover has lost 8 GPGs over Winter.
It appeared to be a combination of cold (the pool heat exchanger carked it at a critical time) and possibly injudicious choice of  foodstuffs during the cold temperatures.
Please, you can throw things at me, but I feel bad enough already. No pictures, as you all know what it like to lose special fish  - I've had some of these since 2009/2010.
No plans to replace them, but I will talk to some of the other QLDAFers who could take 5 or 6 as a chance to try their own breeding program.
That should leave me with a few (less than 10 ) which might be a better school of fish.
    Grover
PS: the bl**dy goldfish are thriving , growing and probably will multiply over Summer. If you want some send me a PM.

    Cetus Sieve Update...
    Well?
The good news is I'm still keen to get to the pumbing exercise.
The bad news is you're going to have to wait for while.
As this is new technology (along with the BBF- Bog Bed Filter), I 've decided to wait for Winter. The cover will go on (for warmth) and the bioload of algae drops off remarkably. So my guess is that this would be the best time to rebuild the Billabong filter system.

Also, in reference to the personal note above, I'm somewhat busy dismantling my life. The nieces and nephews along with Daughter #1, have scored quite a collection of artwork and family history, and I'm just getting started. In the aquarium front, Crusty has scored a variety of equipment as well as the goldfish. And as soon as I master net-casting, there will be more goldies up for free give-away - stay tuned.  You are warned that I have a range of things planned to implement the new concept of "1 Life / 5 Years", so apologies in advance if I tend to mix some of this with the GPG updates. Truth be told, you are not going to get one without the other.
I will endeavour to stay on the fishy-straight-and-narrow, so just feed me out a bit more fishing line along the way.
Bonus artwork tonight is one of my Mum's art drawings from the family history files.
    Cheers,
    Grover

    The personal note…
    Hello @Heintz.G ,
I understand that you might be concerned, but for me it is a change of outlook on life. When you discover that the person you loved does not see a future for the two of you then you re-assess everything in your life. Already the changes are underway – these include a withdrawal from social life, renouncing church attendance, and the ongoing removal of un-necessary “things”.
Unfortunately, the GPGs are also in the firing line, albeit within a 5-year time-frame. So, fear not, the Billabong stories will continue for a little while yet. As recompense for some wonderful online supporters, I have broadened the reach of the Billabong from QLDAF to include Instagram and Facebook (much as I might detest the business morality of these platforms).
Thank you to all my family and friends for their support over the Christmas & New Year period just past.

personally Freddy i wouldn't risk something from a cheapo shop, you have no idea what chemicals lie within.
A lot of sponges etc have antibacterials which will not be very good for your fish
The sites sponsors have pretty good prices, i would suggest just buying from them either online or in store (you get 10% off being a QLDAF member)

    Technological Update
Hmm... based on some LinkedIn learning videos 80% of all content consumed on the internet is video.
This means that Grover's photos and words might be un-trendy, out-of-date, and positively un-hip!
So, you will see a determined effort for more video to attract more visitors. Who knows? Hollywood may come knocking for a screenplay of "GPG: The Movie"
    Cheers

    A Real Update  :-)
Yes, you've all been very patient with Grover while he is distracted.
It's also a "good thing" that she has been patient with me too :- ))
The recent cold snap in Brissie galvanised me into action to cover the Billabong. Didn't even stop to pull down the Summer cover - just got the polyfoam pallets out onto the guy ropes then dragged the blue cover on!  The GPGs were impressed at my speed!
It was late afternoon sunlight when I started, but obviously dark at the finish ha!

    However...
The good news is that I now know that Loctite GO2 Gel (Tm of Henkel PL) and purchased from your friendly LFS (aka "Bunnings") joins Ag pipe with a piece of PVC pipe that has rock-hard blue glue already welded into it (a la the above picture).
So it's all systems back to filtering :-)

I reckon you need to raise the sides of the billabong and build in some viewing Windows!
That way you don't have to move to a place with a bigger pool annnnd you might get to see the gpg's more often!

    Hi @Slipshodman,
    Wot about an RC Battleship?

The GPGs would love chasing it round and round and trying to eat it!

Or perhaps a Torpedo Boat, so I could chase the GPGs??

The water is still too green for an RC submarine with in-built camera, but maybe one day it'll appear in the Billabong...
