Looking for good wood? All wood has been in many of my tanks for years. Then as I changed my plans it went into my pond.  lt has no tannins etc. My pond liner split and I've had to downsize  I've just cleaned it all and pressure cleaned it so its ready to go. There's some stunning pieces here.
    $150 the lot ono

But who does have her very own pond complete with goldfish to be chased and jumped at!

Had a visitor this morning - an Eastern Water Dragon came to investigate the Billabong. He/she is a long way from Kedron Brook!

Had to persuade the Dog that this was an "approved" visitor and was not to be chased or barked at

Nice. I had to chase off a big Bearded Dragon off the middle of the road that was sun bathing the other day, he tried to attack too, in the end I flipped him up a bit with my hat (he was trying to bite me) and he took off over the other side of the road, all this between traffic.

No... not planting gouramis in the garden
Bit more like your normal garden-variety gardening!
As Grover has been encouraged by @aquaholic99 and his friend in Cairns, went shopping at Oxley Nursery for some Lomandra (Mat Rushes).  And, as it was on route, Grover had to visit the Red Dragon Aquarium in Ashridge Road, Darra to spot interesting fish!
After buying a dozen Lomandra longifolia, it was back to the Billabong for major earthworks.
Out with the tatty old agapanthus plants; refurbish site with new potting mix -

    In with the Lomandras -

Much mulch was padded down for them -

And here's the happy result -

In a few months Grover expects they'll look like this -

At that point he'll be trimming off the fine leaves and hurling them into the Billabong for the GPGs to start building nests!

Elephant Ears down for the Count...
A bit gusty today, and the Elephant Ear island #1 was a tad tall... oh well.

I'm sure the GPGs will find lots to munch on.

Current pic of the second female to lay, a bit behind the first.

Couldn't help myself, had fold up aquaculture tanks packed away in the garage from when I used to breed. Just goota sell my gym to make up for the space I'm taking.
Here's the two females just released into the big tank,

    And the tank its self,

    Late Breaking Weekend News...
    "G for George" update !
In somewhat shocking news... "G for George" has been actually identified as "G for Georgina" !       This means that Grover's fish-sexing skills leave a lot to be desired.  And secondly, "G for Georgina" has defied the Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions and gone on holiday. She is now residing in sunny Cairns where it is hoped that she will contribute baby GGGs to the QLD hobbyist aquarium world. Below is a holiday snap of Georgina.  The long travel trip from Brisbane resulted in some fin damage and a generally un-enthusiastic arrival, but she is improving every day and we hope she'll settle in with the other GGGs who already live in the 20,000 litre pool in a Cairns backyard.
Grover would like to thank @aquaholic99 for his assistance in negotiating Georgina's holiday transfer, as she was always a bit of a loner in with the Billabong GPGs.

Georgina is front & centre; one of her new GGG friends is in the background along with a ubiquitous plecostomas!
This leaves Grover free to focus on his pinks from a breeding perspective. Now he's planning new gardening exploits - so keep looking for future updates on plants around the Billabong .    Primary focus will be on plants useful for GPG nest building -
Edible Pandanus (Pandanus amaryllifolius), and Mat rushes (Lomandra species) - all sorts. And also the re-building of the shade cloth cover to prevent possible pelican-attacks
    Cheers!

Fish & I made the trip back safely.
I used zeolite substrate to remove ammonia, and kept pH at 8 & home made soda lime scrubbers  to prevent dissolved CO2 buildup. Didn't need a water change but had pumps, hoses and rest stop locations planned.
Met some very hospitable fish keepers in Cairns.
Sorry I didn't have time to meet up Scott. We can try again when I dont have fish.

    Continuing the plant theme...
Yesterday Grover rescued some tiny plantlets from the flower stalks of his Giant Amazon Sword plants. They are now resident in the Bog Bed Filter and look reasonably happy. As they are semi-emergent plants that can grow under and above the water line they should do OK.

Almost Full Moon for a GFG...
And "G For George" finally comes out to play - Hooray!
Grover has figured that he has 18 (or 19) GPGs, and 1 (one) special GFG - "G For George"

Grover also discovers why George is so elusive.
Whilst leaping around the Billabong edges with camera in one hand, and torch in the other, it was discovered that George (otherwise herein also known as "GFG") likes to hide behind the pool ladder steps! With his colour, he's a perfect match for the green/grey sidewalls of the pool and, Who looks behind pool ladder steps anyway?
Here are the best photos from tonight's montage.

His head has a small lump and is not really white - the camera flash has washed out most of his grey head.
This one's out of focus (he was way too close to the camera!), but shows his 5 - 6 cm wide head

Now Grover can go back to worrying about the GPGs:  feeding, plumbing, and encouraging any and all possible breeding activities.
One of the Elephant Ears was sacrificed this morning. Sliced up and the leaves chopped off and the remains sprinkled in the Billabong to provide nesting materials.
    Cheers,
    Grover

What Grover Really Wanted George to Look Like...
These 4 photos show what the Giant Pink Gourami 'whale-watching' experience is all about. Grover wants to know if anyone else has the same problems in seeing the fish that they carefully look after and feed, but never seem to see.
