  1. Hi guys, I am currently undergoing planning for my new 6x2.5x2.5 tank. Its going to house a dovi cichlid. I want to have a bare bottom in the tank and am going to run a sump as the filter for the setup. I have a few questions for those who have done this before in regards to the sump. Below is a photo of a sketch that I have made up in regards to a sump I wish to have for the tank. I think I have the K1 and purigen around the wrong way as purigen is a water polisher, I think it should be last. The question I have is, should I worry about the K1 part in the sump? Is it a must in sumps or is it over complicating this sump design? The balls I have under the foam matting are going to be marine pure. I am open to any suggestions and feed back anyone has, thanks in advance guys! Kind Regards Ren
  2. Thanks for all the replays guys. There is currently 2x 3 globe (3fts) T8 lights on the tank and looking to switching to LED lighting. Am I going to gain much when it comes to color? Not sure what brand is the best to get. Could someone suggest any ideas? Thanks again Chris
  3. That's the idea that I like but just not sure on what smaller cichlids to put in with them? Thanks for your reply!
  4. Hi guys, I have recently set up a build that I started a long long time ago due to not having the time to finish it sooner with work! It now has water in it and now the partner and I can't decide what we want to put in there. The tank has black quartz gravel and a black background and we want to put driftwood and either real or fake plants to make the colour. My partner was thinking discus but I don't like the idea of keeping a tank at 30 degrees throughout winter and getting a power bill.... I suggested a peacock display? can anyone help suggest a stocking list with plenty of color? Filtration is 2 fluval fx5s. thanks in advance chris
  5. I use Dacron wool from spotlight for the fine filter wool
  6. Ozzie has passed away.... I never thought you could get so attached to a fish... I cleaned the big tank out today and found the glass thermometer with the bottom of it broken, Ozzie would launch at anything that moves on the top of the water. I am putting 2 and 2 together and thinking he has striked at the thermometer, got sick from the stuff inside the thermometer and then got beaten up Because he was sick and the weakest in the tank... Not very happy at the moment. Thanks so much for all your help guys
  7. Hi guys, I recently went on holidays for 5 days and had my mum come to feed the fish. She said everything was fine and none of them were acting strangely, she feed them the night before we got home. When we got home in the afternoon Ozzie was on his side very very badly beaten up. I noticed the 2 green Severums had been shifting some gravel getting ready to breed maybe. I have since moved him into his own tank with melafix and turned the heat up 1 degree and did a little water change. Can someone help me out and tell me what more I can do. He is still lying on his side, lost all color and only breathing very softly. Thanks inks in advance!
  8. Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciated Chris
  9. Thanks so much for everyone's advice, I would love to get some foam big enough to go under the whole tank but I can only seem to find 1200x600mm sheets and the tank is 608mm wide..... I am going to centre the tank on the foam so it will only be 4mm around the outside. Anyone know any suppliers in Newcastle NSW That sell foam other than Clark rubber? Cheers Chris
  10. Hi guys I feel like I am way overthinking things with setting up my new 6x2x2 but the 20mm foam that is too go under the tank is around 8mm short of the full width of the tank. Is this going to be an issue? I am thinking that it should be the same width of the tank even a bit more to be safe. Has anyone had this as a problem? thanks in advance guys chris
  11. No worries thanks so much guys! I appreciate your help. Going to order some from that link this afternoon, thanks again guys.
