  3. I'm probably much less of a general expert than FJ but everything I've been taught goes against the idea that there is a general equation that can be applied to this. My understanding is that it all depends on the quality of heater you buy. If you buy Jager heaters (Eheim) then it should be roughly 1W = 1L but if you go with cheap chinese heaters you might need a 300w to heat a 150l tank.... which in the long run will end up being more expensive anyway due to the extra power consumption and there's also the fact that eheims have 3yr warranties.

  7. Just purchased two 3fters I need to fill and was wondering what everyone's take was on gravel/sand from places like landscaping joints and bunnings. Is it safe? Or do I need to be picky? Anywhere else people would recommend for substrate?
  8. Is this sort of stuff the sort of typical behaviour most tangs exhibit that make people so fanatic about them? Because this is really cool!
  9. This sounds spot on, thanks heaps for your replies to!
  10. Sorry if this has already been said but to not be jealous of this and call yourself even mildly interested in aquaria should be a crime

  12. Any chance of catching a geeze at some photo's of that mate? If not no worries
  13. I've heard around the place now and again of some fish changing there sex when paired with partners of the same sex, and recently my lombardoi have been really surprising me. I purchased two females about 4 months ago at juvy size (correct me if mistaken but lombardoi are relatively sexable nearly from the get-go?) who have slowly grown since then. Except, in recent weeks one of them has faded in colour rapidly, grown significantly larger than the other, begun to exhibit more masculine behaviour, and is even started to look yellowish? (male colouring). Is it likely that it is changing sex from female to male? Or was I jumping the gun this whole time in concluding that its always been female. Or do all lombardoi females fade like this? I would just put it down to dominance if it were the smaller of the pair that were exhibiting faded/weaker colours, but the smaller one is well coloured...
  14. My housing situation, being in a share house, means that my Aquaria is limited to one room, being my bedroom. Hence I'm interested in utilising the 3 feet between my 4fter and my desk with some sort of multi-tanked setup. However, it being in my bedroom, I would like it to hold some aesthetic/display value, as well as having closed cupboard space for cannisters etc. Hence I was wondering if two tiered cabinets are readily available for 2ft tanks? I could possibly stretch it to 3ft if that were the only option. Would it be as easy as posting a WTB on the forum? Or would it be a custom built affair? If so can anyone recommend me an expert willing to tackle such a task in the name of capital interest / innovation!?
