  4. i hear it every day lictoga, via phone , fb or pm " do u have cheap discus for sale " no i do not .. i can get good quality at decent prices but when u call discus cheap u get chinese farmed fish , i wish everyone would follow ppl views on here , breed quality so it fills our hobby with the best again and cull the sh*t from our tanks peter is right , alot of hobbyists out there want nice colours not shape and size , same as breeding i have ppl contact me saysing what do i do when my 3" fish lays eggs , they want the stigma of having a breeding pair of discus , how about leave well alone till they are big enough and mature enough to be a good fish and mum ...
  5. i have to agree with u both , most not all lfs cant sell quality discus at prices they want to so r happy to supply lower grade fish at mid range prices , this is how i started doing what i do , i had 14 pairs at 1 point 90% na discus from rod lewis , and a few tans in the mix , i sold up most before i got married and still had a demand for quality fish at resonable prices , so over the last year i have been picking fish from na forrest and tan for stock to sell on , i wish i had the time for breeding again but with 2 young kids and a full time job its bloody hard as everyone knows ..lol i am now up to approx 60 - 70 tanks whick will be mostly filled with discus from award winniing malaysian breeders , i sell so many based on the quality of the fish and the reputation and i know the prices help a big way aswell maybe if the dollar changes the lfs can get back to higher grades at better pricing , they also have to care for them right which is hard to give food and labour when its all overheadsa to them DT

  9. hi dan , i run my breeding tanks around 6.5, and try to keep my grow out tanks above 7, my tds is between 90 and 140 in breeding tanks i ususally use a mix of filtered tap water and rain water for all my tanks and if im trying to spur one of the pairs on to spawning i will use some ro in the mix , also almond leaves can help with this process or blackwater extract is worth a try getting them to lay is the easy bit , raising the wee critters is the hard part, DT
