  3. Has anyone used this stuff and where did you by it from???
  4. It will all depend on how big each section in your sump is,the smaller the section the faster the water will flow past the media and the bigger the section will allow more time for bacteria to do there thing.it will be trial and error to find out what works regarding the turn over rate all depending on how much you feed them.
  5. You will find you have upset the bacteria in you tank that’s why you have ammonia showing up.all I would do is keep the water changes goin and don’t feed for a few days to let the bacteria catch up and make sure you have plenty of airation in the tank
  6. There’s a few different species of rays available.motoros, mantilla, leos, black diamonds and p14.theres also plenty of cross breeds around.never heard of “golden super spot” just super spots.
  7. I’ve built a 12x6x3 ply tank (build thread in project section)with a steel stand and just in materials cost around 6k and it took me around one working week to build it and I done all the work myself and got someone to help fibreglassing and a few mates to help put the 148kg glass panel in.if I was to quote something this size I would want 10k to cover labour, delivery, any extra costs plus profit.
  8. Ply wood tanks are very labour intensive so they become very costly if your paying someone to build it for you.how do you want it?any tank under 800mm high will be cheaper to do in glass
  9. Try a few high protein pellets to.i find when there guts get skinny some protein helps.
  10. You will probably find they have breed with another species in that tank.over the yrs I've had yellows cross breed with cobolts Blues ,polits, mainganos.so ild say the colours come from cross breeding
  11. Only silvers are allowed as they were imported back in the 70s or 80s.so these could be descendants of those brought it all those years ago.
  12. I'm not to sure winston but my mate has had one for atleast two yrs and still goin strong.he said to me they came from the top end somewhere but now are illegal to collect.
  13. Yeh there nice my mates got one about 35cm had it a few yrs now.
  14. Buy it if you can,I'm pretty sure they can't be collected from top end anymore.
  15. There not display quality but great for breeding in.ive got a few laminated tanks 4 x6x2x2 and 2x 4x2x2 and one of the four fts has delaminated across the bottom in a big arch,I'm just waiting for the day I walk into the fish room to see water everywhere.but overall a good tank to start off with.
  16. You could fined that the freight will cost as much or more then the tank its self because it's so fragile most freight people won't touch it or give you a rediculous price to move it. will be heaps cheaper to get it your self on a car trailer
  17. Can get second hand ones off gumtree sometime free but can get new ones off eBay in certain sizes.i think there's a place in Brisbane that makes or sells them.just search "cool room panels" on eBay it will come up with all the places that supply them.
  18. My rooms build from 50mm thick cool room panels works great for keeping temp but cost a few dollars but definatly worth doin it if you going to be breed for a long time.
  19. It's a fine line when adjusting egg tumblers you might have to fine another tap for the air line to be able to adjust the air to what you need. when i tumbled eggs I use some clear piping from old under gravel filters and made chambers with fly screen on top and bottom then another chamber on top and bottom of that, bottom chamber is to keep other fish out and the top one for the air stone I found the longer you make the chamber with the eggs in the less they get stuck to the top cause you can adjust the flow better
  20. At the moment I've just got the 6x2x2 sump running but have the other 4x2x2s ready to set up.the rest of the filtration will be set up how I planed maybe a fluidised filter added also depending on the water clarity.
  21. Well it's up and running and no leaks, fingers crossed it stays like that.6000 litres of goodness
  22. The k1 section will be tumbled with large air stones so should have plenty of oxygen.will also have 3 large air stones in main tank. back up is with a generator when power goes out. i want to incorporate a Fluidised sand bed, have you got a picture of your set up.i thought about using some 150 pvc pipe and turning that into one but try and have run by gravity or air stone.
  23. I havnt done wheelie bins but I've used a chest freezer and worked well.could probably use a old fridge on its side too.
