  1. My marble bristlenose had babies. I put the dad and babies in a 1ft tank. How long do I leave the dad with the babies and when do i put the babies in with the big fish?
  2. Hey guys, I've got a large beautiful Peppermint bristlenose - Male 15cm. yesterday I noticed he is looking a bit pale on top. Now I know BNC's can change their colour to match their surroundings - he lives in a white PVC tube - so it makes sense that he should be lighter, but it's really inconsistant and patchy. Tank Conditions about 120L for two Peppermints Ehiem 2217 - heaps of filter, with carbon normally really dark (a small light in one corner) - but i let some light in for photos Ph- 7.5 amm -0 nitrite -0 nitrate -0 27 degrees C Have a look at these images and let me know what you think. - I'm hoping it's not a sickness notice how it's symmetrical? This is where he lives - he has a female in the ceramic log beside him
  3. I have 4 albino longfin bristlenose. 2 are females and I recently purchased another 2 (1 male and 1 unknown). The apparent male is 9cm but has got no bristles and basically looks exactly like my original 2 females. Should the 'male' have his bristles by now? I also have a bunch of albino shortfins, which are smaller but you can already tell the males from females.
  4. Hey All, I have a few Normal & Albino Bristlenose Babies (3cm+) that I want to move on to allow the smaller ones to grow. I let my Normal Pair breed twice so my son (2.5yrs) could watch them turn from eggs, to wrigglers, to fry and now Nice BN's ;-) But I don't have the tank space to grow these guys out fully, nor can I be bother wasting my time trying to sell these guys. So I have decided to give them away in 4 groups of 2 (1xNormal & 1x Albino OR 2x Normal) to People who are New to FishKeeping. I have counted atleast 8 fish of size, will post up more once more grow ;-) There are some conditions to taking this opportunity: - You must be Honest in that you are New and NOT just trying to score some free fish. - You must actually keep these and not just take them to your local petshop for a quick $ (Again Honesty). - This isn't so much a rule but these guys are Brothers & Sisters so would prefer you not to breed them together, BUT feel free to Breed them with other stock once they are old enough :-) How to Win: - Simply Post Up on this Thread (PM's will be ignored), 1st in Best Dressed. This way everyone gets to see who gets the fish. I will contact the 4 people via PM. - Pickup is to be arranged for this Saturday Morning (1/6) OR Sunday Morning (2/6) from Redbank Plains Ipswich - Delivery is not an option on free fish. If you DONT show up at the arranged time (Excuses will be Excepted only if its the worlds best!), you will forfeit your fish and be labelled a TimeWaster in my books! Some Pics: Not greatest photography.... Hahahaha Pretty sure that's it... Hope Everyone can enjoy FishKeeping as much as I do :-) Thanks Tim P.S. Sorry If this is in the wrong area...
  5. I have a couple of breeding long fin bristle nose in a 2 footer with some guppies. I am in the process of moving up to a 3 footer. Want to keep the BN breeding but don't really want guppies any more. Any ideas for other fish??
  6. I remember when marble bristlenose used to look VERY different to the garden variety common bristlenose. Over the last few years most of the pics in ads i see of them for sale look pretty much like commons just with the occasional and very mild discolouration to them. So i was at my lfs (Southside Petbarn) today and spotted these beauties. Nice to see there are still some around that actually look like something other than a common and actually justify the extra price tag. Not particularly surprised to find out they came form one of our forum members. Just thought i'd share.
  7. how do i get rid of snails in my breeing bristlenose tanks? any info would be grate thanks
  8. Hi, could someone please take a look at these pictures & tell me if this is bloat, full of eggs or what. I found one of my very mature males dead tosay floating at the top of the tank & his tummy was quite distended. Is there an illness going through my tank?
  9. Bristlenose 3-4cm $4.50 4-5cm $10 5-6cm $15 6-8cm $20 8-10cm $25 Ph 0403 675 234
  10. Hi all, just wondering if anyone has seen a true marble bristlenose lately. I see heaps of calico getting passed of as marbles but I have only ever seen one colony of true marbles and I'm not sure if any fry were ever sold. If anyone has seen any or have any I would be keen to get some for a new adventure. I added a photo off the net to show what I am looking for. In the colony I seen some of the fry looked like this, some were brown and red and some had more white with red or brown and every colour in between. Any help appreciated. Cheers mick
  11. Will Rays eat Bristlenose ? Will Bristlenose bother Rays ?
  12. Hi Guys, Im doing a water change on my African all male Hap/Peacock tank and I decide to remove some of the larger rocks and rearrange my scape because the fish are growing and need some more room. Any way I have a pair of bristlenoses in there at approx 10-12cm mark, the substrate is mainly shell grit and there is no wood so water conditiions are quite hard. I did not think this would be favourable. I regularly throw in som zucchini which ALL the fish enjoy not just the bristlenose's and there is some alage growth for them to graze on. I havent seen the male for a few weeks and figure he might have died, so I was quite surprised to move a big rock to see my male and about a dozen fry about 13-14mm long scatter and hide(fry) in the cracks of my latex background... cool. Of course I dont think any will survive, but I just thought Id share... cheers Gary
  13. Hi Guys, I have nearly finished building my new racking for my breeding setup, with this being said, I will have 3 x 3ft tanks and a sump left over that I am not going to be using, so I thought I would put my breeding bristlenoses into them. What I am wondering is if there is anything different that I need to do with the sump, it is currently used for African Cichkids and currently the sump has sponge, bioballs, noodles and coral in it, should any of this be changed? At the moment I only have a pair of common bristlenose, I may later add some cherry shrimp, but unsure at moment. Any advice would be good. Cheers C

  22. Hey everyone, haven't been on in a while. Hope you're all well A friend of mine mentioned today he was planning to breed his Red Devils and it got me curious about breeding. I asked him a bit about it and mentioned I was interested in giving it a go. He told me I should start with either some generic Bristlenose or Peppermint Bristlenose because it's reasonably easy and you can sometimes make a little money out of it. He said you just keep a pair per 2ft tank and use sponge filters run by an air pump so it uses little electricity. To me (knowing nothing about breeding fish) this sounded too good to be true. Is this the case? Do aquarium stores/private buyers regularly purchase baby Bristlenose or is it one of those sort of fish where you won't sell any and then become overrun with no tanks to put them. I just wanted to check popularity of them on this forum before I venture out and buy everything. Thanks for your time, Dave
  23. Is it normal for Bristlenose tail fin tips to go milky white? Or is it a sign of fin rot?
