  1. i've got to move my tank and thinking of changing substraight from calcium carb to a sand base. because the pump is in the bottom of the fluval fx 5 filter i was wondering weather anyone had every used one of these filter with sand as a base my main concern is the sand being sucked up through the strainer and then being drawn into the impellor and grinding this away. Do you think this will be a issue , and can you think of way of overcoming this. i though about placing a sponge filter over the strainer to reduce intake but the bottom of the strainer is about the size of a hand so a bit to big, and it for a display tank so i dont want it looking to ugly. thanks chris
