2. Noticed some hydras growing in my planted tank this afternoon. I currently only have plants and the odd snail in this tank but am being graciously gifted some juvie guppys, R.C.S. and bristlenose from peterw. question is, will these tiny jelly fish like organisms harm the soon to be new editions?
3. Looking to add some fish in with my discus. Tank is planted 6ft with driftwood and heaps of bristlenose varietys. Wanting to add some nice fish in with the discus other than angels. What are some good ones that are peaceful and something different?

This was seen on a recent collecting trip, poor guy, I hope it gets it out soon, the ocy numbers are through the roof here at the moment and these guys take them out in these types of areas more then wobbies and predatory fish species.
7. Hey guys, Just after a good food for red zebs to help them colour up. Something healthy if possible as that is a priority above anything else. I'm currently using sera flora mix and I'm vigilant with my water quality. Also feel free to share what you feed your mbuna too. Cheers
8. Hey Goldfish lovers! I picked up this Oranda on impulse today purely because he has an awesome wen (That's what it's called, yeah?). Just interested to know if this would be considered low, medium or high quality purely for interests sake. Hopefully netty_3164 and goldenswimmers will come forward and give me 101 reasons why this is an awesome fish! Thanks, Finn

He's is trying to keep them for himself by not advertising them on his website Just thought I better let all the comp and calvus people know as mine had 20 breeding holes in it for them to choose from . Worked out to be $1 a hole . Thanks techy but the secrets out now
11. I have a salt water tank in my office that has recently been affected by the disease "velvet” . I don’t have the facilities to nurse these fish back to good health so I’d rather give them away then let them die. They are free to whoever has the spare tanks to nurse them back to good health. Fish are: Volitan Lion, Flame Angle, Bi-Coloured Angle, Clown, Yellow Tang, Moon Wrasse, Porcupine Puffer. Please call me if you want any or all of them asap . Mat 0410654721

13. Just want say hello and it's great to be a part of this community. I jumped straight into the traders' section (too eager to start my collection from nothing, lol it's been awhile) and haven't introduced myself yet so here it is. My name is Howievn and I've been a fish fan of aquariums for a number of years now. I have a 4/2/2.5ft tank with a new jardini about 25cm and is tank mates with clown loaches (8-10cm) and guppies, lol. Seems to be going great so far although there was an altercation on the fist day I introduced the jardini to the tank. She took a bite at one of the smaller loaches but I quickly tap the glass pane which made her spit the loach out. Since then she has not really taken notice of them or the guppies. Mind you they do swim about sometimes without any problems and hide amongst the rocks and plants when not feeding or swimming. The tank is looking good and the fishes have settled in although I would like to expand my collection of fishes to include a Asian arowana, archers, tinfoil barbs, silver dollars (or their relatives) and maybe others. ATM I have a 4ft tank in use and a 8ft on the dry docks. I plan on getting more tanks (a 6ft and maybe another 4ft) whenever the opportunity arises, beside I have two fishes that's a must. The jardini (which I have now) and an Asian arowana which I am still searching for. The rest will be tank buddies to them (lucky we have solar panels installed, lol). Can anyone can assist me with finding an Asian arowana? not the south American arowana. Well again, I am stoked to be a part of this community and share the love. I hope you'll kind to this newbe.
14. I'm looking at doing a marine tank in the future. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good book for me get to do some research before i start. Cheers JP.
15. When I do receive exceptional service from a business or person, I like to tell people! We all tell others when we receive bad service but happily go about our lives when we receive good service! I purchased an Otto canister filter off John at The Tech Den several weeks ago and had a quick look at the filter when I received it, all looked good. I started to fit the hoses and put the filter together yesterday getting it ready to fit to an existing aquarium, when I had the motor off the canister I noticed a small crack in the green plastic canister, about 50mm long. Realising the canister would leak I did not proceed. I sent off an e-mail to John at The Tech Den this morning describing what had happened, stating it was not his problem, just asking for suggestions as this most likely would have happened during transport as I had purchased over the website and John had posted to Toowoomba for me. I received a phone call from John at lunch time to say he has packaged up a new canister and was now just waiting for it to be send off and I should have it tomorrow! I said to John I was happy to pay for the part but did not know if I could buy the canister as a spare part, no problem he said he wanted to make sure I got the filter up and running ASAP, no charge. I have always, always received fantastic service from The Tech Den and the least I can do is tell people of my experience. We all shop online now to save money and because it is convenient any time of the day or night but when do you really expect to get this kind of customer service! Do yourself a favour and support a small business that really cares about their customers and customer service! Support The Tech Den!

17. Ok so after a few weeks of using Epsom salts to raise GH i started to get a little iffy on it, due to a few things. #1 It has a laxative effect on fish, and on humans, its used to treat dropsy aswell because it draws fluid from the body which if your not sick that's a bad thing. #2 fish,just like people become dependant on laxatives,its not a good thing in the long run for both ppl and fish, the muscles associated with moving waste through the gut quit working as efficiently because the laxative does alot of the job for them. Apparently if you don't know exactly how much Epsom salts is too much or if you use it to often (e.g. every water change) the salts build up. #3 it also has a sedative effect along with the laxative effect, which might be useful in some cases but its all very un-natural and when you think about it you wouldn't like being on laxatives 24/7 esp if it wasn't necessary! So why would the fish like it? Lastly I'll admit I thought the fish were going good on the whole Epsom salt thing but I think they were just going good because of the small amount of sea salt I was adding to boost iodine in the water which apparently is extremely important for fish and the mineral quickly depletes from the water and the bad effects of iodine deficiency on fish are proven to be numerous. But in general I wasn't happy with the way my featherfins started to look and act after a couple weeks using Epsom salts and a few days ago I started using riftlake salts again and their looking better all round in general (and if you want an indicator of good or bad water conditions that effect colour and active behaviour in fish you cant get a better one than cyathopharynx as you'll get far from decent colour from these fish if general good water conditions are off!) or atleast they wont be coloured for long. So yeh I for one am NOT gonna be using anymore Epsom salts to raise GH and recommend ppl who do use it to take a close look at the facts of its effects etc and take a close look at wether your fish are actually doing as well as they could or should be while living in a sedative/laxative state 24/7. Theres many who debate this and say that their fish do well on the Epsom salt/bi-carb/marine salt D.I.Y. buffer but theres many more who consider it a no go, and now that I think of it the issue of the laxative effect alone is enough for me to consider epsom salt a no go for my fish. Cheers ;
