  1. Good morning all I have a low tech planted plant and up until now I've only been fertilising with dino dung. I don't have any C02 on the tank. I'm about to purchase the following two products that I saw Donny recommending on a thread a while ago: Easy - Life EasyCarbo - http://www.thetechden.com.au/Easy_Life_EasyCarbo_250ml_Liquid_Carbon_CO2_p/eas250.htm?CartID=1 Easy-Life ProFito - http://www.thetechden.com.au/Easy_Life_ProFito_1_Liter_EasyLife_Universal_Pla_p/pro1000.htm?CartID=2 I'd like to know whether these two products (along with the dino dung for root feeders) will allow me to keep my plants healthy with the least effort and cost. I have a 600L tank so I don't want anything expensive that I'll need to use gallons of each time. Is it worth using the liquid carbon on a tank this big or will it get too expensive? (I know that's subjective sorry, but would you do it?) Also when using a liquid carbon replacement in assuming that the water disturbance doesn't matter like it does with injected C02? Would you use something else instead, of a similar price range? Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I've read on the bag that you're supposed to rinse the Fluval Stratum before using but found that it made the water quite cloudy (water I'm rinsing it with). Made me wonder if I'm doing this wrong and losing alot of the nutrients/soil. Jumped online and found some people saying that you're not supposed to rinse at all... What are you experiences and opinions?
  3. Hey guys I'm going to be upgrading my tank this weekend and my tank I have now will be getting picked up on Friday night and I'll be getting the new tank around lunch time on Saturday, I just have 1 15cm flowerhorn in the tank and I was wondering if he would be ok in a 20L bucket with an airstone for that time? Or is it not such a good idea?

  5. Hey everybody Chris here, ive recently setup up a tank with F1 Burundi Frontosa's in it. I added about 6 electric yellows to throw abit more colour in the tank, earlier today out of the corner of my eye I noticed 2 of the lil elec yellows picking at the fins on my dominant male fronnie.. Has anybody had trouble with this before
  6. Does any one know if the ISTA I-641 C02 regulator will fit a C02 bottle with a AS 2030 thread??
  7. Hi People, First like to say hello just joined the forum. I'm from the superior state known as NSW ;-p :eek:just kidding. I'm in the process of setting up a 5ft brand new tank and have some questions regarding bio media for a new canister filter I'm looking at purchasing (I'm a full time student once again so going to get a sunsun or something similar http://goo.gl/Bgf3P0 would love a fx5 or 6 but $$ is really tight). Anyway my question is can k1 media be used in a canister filter? If not what do you guys think of lave rock? Is there something better? Just for your information I currently have a 3ft tank stocked with the following (A biopro 800 L/h filter on it right now) 1x Oscar 1x Australia Bass 2x Empire gudgeons 1x Southern yellowfin Bream (Which I believe is different from the type you get in QLD) They are all relatively small but I understand they need an upgrade asap (Before anyone ask why the hell I have a Bass with a Oscar I stupidly listened to a LFS that said he always puts Oscars or other Cichlids with Aussie natvies to stop Aussie native fish aggression) Thanks in advanced
  8. Hey guys, just want to make sure... The little bags that come with the fx6 in the box are they good to put purigen in and would it be enough? Thankyou

And secondly does anyone know what type (if thats the correct term) he is? I have added a pic sorry about clarity . Thnx
  13. Hi all, We're in the process of researching for our new aquarium and I have some idea of the type of fish (tetras, corydoras) and plants we would like to keep. I tested my tap water yesterday using an API kit, and the reading came in at 6. Mindful of the fact that the API only goes down to 6.0, I used some test strips and it looks more like somewhere between 5 to 6 (strips only go up in 1.0 increments). I'm about to see if I can invest in a pH meter but wanted to check if this means we can't keep most of the fish we want since they have a pH range of 6.5 and up and I don't want to be correcting pH for years to come? Thanks, Tracy
  14. Hey guys, Just wondering if wholesalers buy from small local breeders? I have more neon/electric blue acaras than I can poke a stick at right now I was keen to offload them and would like to know for any other fish I'll want to move on in the future. I've tried google and can't seem to find any info or any wholesalers I can ask the question. Any help much appreciated
  15. The last tank I cycled a 2ft tank took approx 4 weeks. This one is a 1 ft tank and has been running for nearly 5 weeks, ammonia approx 4ppm, nitrite 2ppm and nitrate approx 80ppm (I'm not overly concerned about this result as I always get 40ppm on any test I do on a tank)All 3 seem to be minimally lower than yesterday. But about the same level as 2 weeks ago. There are plants in the tank but all look reasonably good to me. I did use a QuickStart style product to start with and used it as per directions on bottle. I don't understand where the ammonia side of the results are coming from as there's nothing I can see that will be adding any form of waste. Have I just not waited long enough? Or is there something else I should be checking?
  16. I want to add some API Quick start to my tank once I hook my sump back up to it do add enough Quick start for the tank plus sump volume or just the tank volume and is it safe to add it to the tank if I already have fish in it
  17. Need advise please I was kindly given 2 female red grass guppies. My question is their tail colours have a bluey- grey shade, no red. Is that in keeping for a female of this variety? They were bought from Jodie-Lea Any help appreciated Andy
  18. Hi, I am looking for a 20mm (3/4") or 25mm (1") bulkhead to fit a 65-75mm clearance at the back of the tank so I would need a bulkhead with a low profile or thin lock nut. Does anyone know where to get something like those in the pictures below? They seem to have a very low profile locking nut. I can easily take off the excess threads. 20. Hey guys, I am interested in purchasing a lovely half moon betta and was just wondering about tank sizes. I currently have an empty 20 gallon tank (60cm long x 45 cm high x 30 cs wide) and was just wondering if this tank is too high for a betta? I have read that bettas can't live in high fish tanks, so I would like to know your opinions of this myth. I can purchase a smaller tank; however, i want to give the fish as much room as it deserves. Thanks in advance guys!
  21. I have a 8X2X2.5ft tank currently with 2x fx6 filters. I am looking at a possible near future swap to marine.i would like know can I run a chiller and skimmer inline with my filters or should I remove the fx6's?
  22. api quick start i can use that then add fish straight in without it cycling ?
  23. Hey all just got a question, checked my tank today and ph was between 8.0 and 8.2 but my hardness is low any ideas? I have 2 very large bits of Texas rock in the tank, 4x2 not sure how much coral I have in filters though. My results came back at only 4 drops.
  24. Went to collect some duckweed out it's container this morning and found a dirty big cane toad doing laps in the container. I was getting it to feed to the goldfish but now I'm not sure if I should. Have rinsed the weed off and put it in some clean water but I wouldn't mind some advice on if I should. Worse case scenario is chucking it on the compost heap and starting the regrowing process.
  25. http://m.youtube.com/?#/watch?v=KkKBYWXRAUw In the above video i have a sump running on my 4x18x18 ebjd and split pair tank. I built it for some5hing else but decided to run it on this tank instead as it was already drilled. I have my min and max marks on the sump and as you can see in the video its below my min. I topped this up 4days ago to the max line and through evaporation has gone done quite abit. I am asking for ideas on an automatic water top up system for this. Only because its a pain to fill b3cause of the positioning of it i have to hold a bucket above my head and syphon down into it. I know i could cover the sump to minimise evaporation but if anyone has any experience with diy top ups please share. I will be needing this info anyway in the near future for other sumped racks that im in the process of setting up as i want to automate water changes. (Drip system) NB. I am still running the eheim cannister on this tank aswell until im happy the new sump media has seeded properly. Cheers John.
