  2. Hi guys and girls, Thought I would finally make a post for my 3 foot Tanganyikan tank. There is still some hardscape changes to be made with the addition of more fish in the near however this hardscape will do. It took all of about 10 minutes to create with no thought or effort and was done blind as I added the coral sand before hand and the tank was that milky I could not see 1cm into the tank so sorry if the hardscape is not up to scratch. The fish love it so I have not been inclined to touch it yet but will very soon. Fish is currently as follows: 4 x Female Callochromis Pleurospilus 6 x Neolamprologus Similis 10 x paracyprichromis Nigripinnis 3 x Tanganicodus Irsacae Soon to add: 1 x Male and 1 x Female Callochromis Pleurospilus 4 or 5 x Neolamprologus Similis 2 x paracyprichromis Nigripinnis (maybe) 1 x Pair of Altolamprologus Compressiceps Firefin Tank: 3 foot x 20 inch x 20 inch Filtration: Eheim 2217 with additional 250gm of Seachem Purigen Lighting: Hagen Glo 3 foot Unit with 10 000k bulb and a Midday bulb Substrate: 40kg of 0.5 to 2mm Coral Sand Hardscape: A LOT of red rock with low grade opal and amazing texture Lots of shells 17mm Glass Lily Pipe Inlet (using standard Eheim Spray Bar for outlet as it provides far better surface agitation) Food: Ocean Nutrition Vegie Flakes New Life Spectrum Thera A Sera Flora Baby Brine Shrimp Extras: Seachem Tanganyikan Buffer Seachem Cichlid Lake Salt Enjoy; Female Callochromis Goby Photos do not do the depth of the tank any good with relation to the rock. So many features of rock work with the layout at the moment and all are hidden from a front on shot. I will add more shots very soon. Thanks, Adam
  3. Hi guys, Here is my new addition to the tank list Tank 3 x 18 x 20 Substrate Frazer Island Sand Filtration 1 x Aqua One Aquis Advanced 1050 1 x Aqua One Aquis 1200 Both filters soon to be replaced with just the one Eheim 2217 that is currently running in the tank 1 x ANS iFlo Filtration Set 17mm Lillypipes (to be put in there soon) Lighting 1 x Hagen GLO Twin T5 HO light unit. 2 x Hagen GLO Tubes Heating 1 x Aqua One 300W Heater, To be Upgraded to a Hydor Inline heater as soon as they become available. Hardscape Melaleuca (have about 6 more pieces to use from as well that can easily be put in at any stage that are all three foot full pieces as this scape only uses 1) Plants Indian Almond Leaves and peat layer (yet to be a full layer throughout the substrate) Fish 8 x Corydoras Melini 7 x Corydoras Atropersonatus 2 x Apistogramma Trifasciatus (breeding pair) 20 x Lemon Tetras Soon to put in 15 x Dwarf Pencilfish and replace the lemon tetras The aim is to get a rio nanay/tigre biotope where both of my corydoras are from, however the apistogrammas I am unsure about? But could not pass up such a beautiful breeding pair. Will hopefully be putting in some apistogrammas that relate to this area if the trifasciatus arent from this specific area. Some small changes need to be made to the scape as such, including more low lying wood from the wood I still have spare (6 3 foot pieces I can cut up and use) and give them more of a "hut" style layout. I am still playin around with the scape as such and getting it right but the fish are loving the environment and the very low pH First thing is first (which I know many will comment on instantly) is the hydor inline heater needs to go in the tank ASAP as the sight of this ugly aqua one heater is just ruining the scape. And also I need to be a better photographer so I can really show what the aquascape is like rather than my dodgey pics. Will update once more wood is added and it is more "filled out" on the bottom with more of a nest of wood throughout whole bottom. FULL tank shots:
  4. So Adam and I went shrimping today and he thinks we have ninja/chameleon shrimp (definite), glass shrimp and some others, help with ID please?? Here are some pictures I think there is the 3 types in the photo below Close up of one of them And another one can anyone ID them if we are right or wrong. Thanks and enjoy.
  5. Hi guys, I will update this properly soon but as for now here it goes. Proper pictures will follow as well as a progress of the aquascape itself as fine tuning is to be made. Still have a lot of planting to do later on tonight and rearranging of the mid and background section until I am satisfied. I guess in a sense you could call this a nature garden aquascape as it does follow that trend and it is especially what I wanted from this tank and especially love the bolbitis hanging out of the tank Anyways peoples constructive criticism of the scape welcome Adam
  6. Hi guys, I will update this properly soon but as for now here it goes. Proper pictures will follow as well as a progress of the aquascape itself as fine tuning is to be made. This is a start of what is to come; Hazy from used Ada taken out then put back into tank. Many more wonderful water changes to come before its clear. JOY! I will also need to pack the areas where the aquasoil has landslided and compact it more and also fill in the spots where there has been a air void and the soil has sank into the tank. So lots still to do with the substrate. Plants will consist of a range of erios, pogo helferi, hc, ug, eleocharis belem, eleocharis acicularis, possibly eleocharis vivipara, and some glosso... Planting will conduct as soon as I can find some HC I will give better photos once the haze clears up. I would love your criticism on the hardscape. MY only concern is the three rocks that are emersed above the tank and does not allow for a peak in that region.... PS hardscape was done by Jeff or Daydream. Great guy who is a bloody smart person when it comes to aquascaping and fishkeeping and more so breeding. Also really good at getting ADA soil behind the tank where you cannot get to mean while Zane, Chris and myself make a total mud pit of my bedroom hahaha!! Good night last night. I am unsure on the front right as other members on an aquascaping forum said they feel it is too bold on the front right and detracting a lot from scape but I feel it adds to the depth of the valley in the centre. Anyways peoples constructive criticism of the scape welcome Adam
  7. Hi guys and girls, Here is a journey for me into the world of biotopes. It is no way near finished however will continually update on a weekly basis until perfection is reached. I went for the bigger wood, but there is not much information on the Rio Tapajos where the Geophagus Tapajos is kept, more so where the apistos and in the drainage systems themself. I have also opted for finer melaleuca too. Whole idea is to have a natural setting with some nice intriguing bits of driftwood with lots of curves and bends like shown, with the nice sand which would be what is seen in the Rio Tapajos, and no plants, some stones as stones are often found in the bottom of the Rio Tapajos of all sizes, shapes and also sharpness, indian almond leaves for more feature, slight tannin, good ph, kh, gh and good quality fish. My set up will be upgraded in a few months time so yes, for now the tank size is okay for the accomodation of fish, but will be upgraded to a 5 x 2 x 2 by january next year at the latest. For now though; The system is as follows; Tank 3 foot by 18 inches by 20 inches Tank Stand Standard Tank Stand stained Substrate 40kg of Frazer Island Sand (very white and bright sand) (will not use all but got enough to last for the upgrade tank too) Filtration 1 x Aqua One Aquis 1200 Canister Filter • 1.5L Seachem Matrix • Aqua One Ceramic Noodles • Various size sponges • Four finer woollen pads • DAZS Anti Phosphate Pad (May not be used yet) • DAZS Anti Ammonia Pad (May not be used yet) • DAZS Anti Nitri Pad (May not be used yet) • DAZS Black Sponge Pads x 3 • DAZS Fine Black Wool Pad • API Bio Chem Zorb Sachet 1 x ANS iFlo Filtration Set 17mm Lillypipes Lighting 1 x Hagen GLO Twin T5 HO light unit. 2 x Hagen GLO Tubes or 2 x 10 000K Tubes Heating 1 x Aqua One 300W Heater, To be Upgraded to a Hydor Inline heater within two months. Pick up the stand from the painters tomorrow I might of missed one or two things from that list but if need be will update the list later but hopefully that is all that is needed. Still need to order my plants and arrange how many, plant list is just a rough guide of what will be used. I will be doing the dry start method for the HC, and hopefully be successful. Here is some pictures of the collection of products. Still awaiting on a few more products as stated but here is the bulk of the products. Will take pictures of the rocks once I have cleaned them all up. The rocks are STUNNING. I do have to give special mention to; Adam at Aquascape Design - His dedication to the hobby, and helping other people out is simply amazing. He has helped me out through many 30 minute phone calls discussing ideas, products, and issues for my set up. He has also supplied the majority of the IMPORTANT items for my scape, including the amazing rocks. His parcels are very quick, and contents very well protected. His support for me and the products supplied to me cannot be faulted. Over the moon with his business. Mick at Southport Aquarium and Petland - Great tank and tank stand, always builds great tanks and tank stands upon request even if I did ask for an annoying or fiddly to do tank and tank stand, was no drama for Mick. Toby - Mate of mine who has supplied the best of the best iwagumi advice, and many upon many Takashi Amano articles in Tropical Fish Magazines he owns. Josh at Aquariums Alive - Supplied the amazing Rasbora Hengelis, Oto, and a ripper price on the Aqua One 1200 canister filter. Great price done there for all products. Thanks to all the above mentioned people. I have devised a very thorough ritual written out in a journal, for how to do my substrate, how to arrange my rocks, how to do my water changes, what days to feed the fish what foods, what to do if any water paramaters are not met, what to do for any illness of fish, basically everything from start to finish all written down so it could possibly passed on to any one for an insight of what I would do, or have had to do for any of the issues. Will also make a good journal for someone wanting to replicate the same style of layout that is not that aquascape minded, so will post that when it is finished too Anyways on with the pics; First thing to rock up was this Opened out to be this inside Tank arrived; Products I will be using (not all are there, some are still in transit); Adam from Aquascape Design sent these lights (used on my holding 3 foot tank for fish), and fish were bought for my holding tank for the mean time until new tank is set up; oto These amazing products from Adam also rocked up at my door step this morning :) ; Box of filter to be used (bottom box, top filter is a spare); More items not pictured that will be included in coming days once the process of putting it all together begins Thanks guys, Adam

  11. Hi Everyone, This is my first ever marine tank, I had a 3 foot tank when I was about 10 that I tried to keep goldfish in with no filter and a desk lamp and didn't even know what a water change is.. that didn't work out so well Im abit older and have abit more money now, so here goes. Tank: 600*600*600 cube 10mm glass 12mm base euro bracing Sump: 450*450*300 6mm glass acrylic baffles DSB section Equipment List: Reef Octopus NW-110 Skimmer Eden 155 Return Pump (4200Lph) 3x Hydor Koralia's Copys (5000Lph) 2x Jager 200W Heaters Hailea HC-300A 1/4hp Chiller Marine Aquarium to 800L 250W MH & 4x 24W T5 Unit 14000k 250W DE Lamp 2x 24w 10000k Bulbs 2x Actinic Bulbs Here's some pics of the equipment sofar: Heaters: Just reflecting how big these things are for only 200W, also the entire white section you can see here is heater element, unlike the cheap ones which have a tiny amount of heating surface: AOA order.. Eden 155 4200lph return pump.. I tested this thing out by dropping it side on into my 90ltr QT tank. The pump shot across the other side of the tank and luckily I didn't have much water in the tank as it was seriously pushing some water ! 2x 54W T5 HO GLO Unit - was bought when i was going to do a freshwater setup, so this will be placed over my sump for the Refugium. Has 6500K bulbs in it which are designed for plant growth, so it should do the job very well
