  1. I bought these guys along with a couple of red empress, albino afras and maingano as fry a little while back from a breeder in chermside but I have lost her information. Just wanted to see if anyone could tell me what sex they are? I would have thought if they were male they would be starting to get a bit of colour by now, they are probably around 9cm. Also if anyone knows the person who was breeding them let me know because she said if they turned out female she may be interested in buying/trading them back. Cheers
  2. Hi Guys, Ive been researching alot for good colour in a cichlid tank and compatibility for 55g/4feet/230l tank and this is what i came up with. if you could tell me what you think and if they will fight for any reason. 5 x Red Zebra 5 x Pseudotropheus Salousi 5 x Rusty Cichlid 5 x Cynotilapia Afra Cobwe [h=1][/h]My only worry is the Afra and Soulousi, they might be too similar and fight?. Ill be swapping males for females once the get older and can easily be sexed. The tank will have a 2200LP/H filter so no problems in overstocking Thanks Francois
  3. hi guys, is the cynotilapia cobue the same fish as the one being marketed as yellow afra ?
  4. Hi all! Can anyone help me getting my hands on some Cynotilapia Afra Jalo Reef? Seems like they are hard to find. Does anybody have any or know who has some? Any info on availability is appreciated. Thanks Sebastian
  5. Hey does anyone own/breed Cynotilapia Afra Cobwes and whats your thoughts on them?, like are they easy to look after and breed?
  6. so i bought some cobues a little while ago now off alby, have left them alone and was just going to let them go at it..... but still no fry, still no mouthfuls. tank is getting the same treatment as when my johannii's were breeding like mad, tank includes 3 bristlenose, 1 male johannii and 3 females and some fry ( they really don't care about conditions LOL!! ) as well as the 5 male, 8 female cobues. water quality is the same as i have put in the tanks since i started 1 1/2 years ago, tap water (8ph ish) with chlorine neutraliser, thats it substrate is sand, filtering is a sump and a small power head with noodles in it instead of sponge for water flow more than filtering and an air bar. pics:- overall left side close right side close the males have territory and display all the time but the females just don't seem interested, any ideas on what i have wrong or can try to get them "happier"???
  7. will some of these guys survive in a PH of about 6.8?

  9. Ok, I am trying to breed some Afra Cobue. I have 1 male and 2 females, I have had them for over a month and nothing seems to be happening. I have hollow logs and plenty of rocks and they are in their own tank.... The male is attacking only 1 of the females and she is getting pretty beat up. Can anyone help!!! Ben

  12. I got a Cobue at the last auction, nice healthy looking male about 9cm, colour was there albeit washed out from sitting in a plastic bag all night, no signs of un-natural colour from hormone food. A good prospect for a display male. However when I got him into my display he good bashed by his new tankmates. Did all the right things, changed the rockwork around, introduced him late at night. So into a 2ft quarantine tank he went with some salt and Melafix for the torn fins. In hindsight needed one or two other new tankmates for it to work. I put some pieces of irrigation pipe for him to hide and settle, which was fine, however over the week he's stayed in his cave, not even eaten (NLS), and looking a deperately unhappy fish. So I took out the pipes last night before lights out and wouldn't you know it, there he was this morning happily swimming around and showing some barring and signs of his upper body yellow colour. He also ate this morning and looks much more confident. Just goes to show, sometimes you can overcook it (so to speak) when trying to create a beneficial environment for a stressed fish. Interesting stuff.
  13. Hey i have a 4 foot with quite a few yellows, a calvus pair, maingano pair, dolphin trio (small) and a couple of fronies (small). I want to add a few TROPHEUS MOORII KAISER I IKOLA and a few AFRA COBWE. Wondering if they would go well together. I dont care if they arent perfect together i just dont want them to rip each other apart or make one another starve. Thanx Ash
