  1. I already threw out the warranty. Ok so despite the high price I thought I'd buy an 100 eheim air pump for the promise of a quiet air pump. After about 8 months the outlet was half of what it was so I took it apart today to see if I could see the trouble. Put it back together and blasted thing is a jack hammer and hardly works. My advice to people is don't buy ehiem air pumps. Is this well known?
  2. Hi all, sorry if this info is already on here, I tried searching but didn't find what I was after. I'm setting up some grow out tanks in my garage that I want to run on air sponges but I can't find any info on how much air I need to drive them. Does 1L of air per min move 1L of water per min. I have been keeping tropicals for about 10 years but always on canisters so I don't have any experience with sponges. thanks.
  3. Hi all I'm sick and tired of replacing big ball air stones in my BIG tank can anyone recommend a big air stone that wont clog in 6 months or less? atm I'm using big ball stones and they just clog up in no time at $7 each I use 4 at a time iv tried cleaning them soaking them in vinegar nothing works very well any ideas out there? its a display tank so the plastic screw together type are a no go
  4. Hi, could anyone help me out in suggesting a air ran sponge filter and air pump please, have ordered a mid range priced canister to play with but am also interested in perhaps using an air sponge set up instead of the canister for a 45l tank which will eventually house a smallish group of Spotted Blue Eyes, Peacock Gudgeons and Glass Shrimp, planted lightly with Vallisneria nana, Lilaeopsis brisbanica, Native Penny Wort in natural aquarium gravel, thanks.
  5. Nice idea when you stuck without air stone
  6. So I bought some Peppered Cory's yesterday and put them in my 60L tank and they keep swimming to the top of the tank, would this be due to lack of oxygen in the water? Live plants and silk plants. Other fish in the tank are 1 fighter and 9 Tetras and what seems to be only 1 cherry shrimp.

  8. Was just thinking, would you be able to run one of those single or double sponge filters through a solar air pump? Would it be strong enough?
  9. Can someone help me understand what sized air pump i need? My set up is going to be 6-8 nano tanks, each is almost exact 10 litres on 2 racks (4 on top and 2-4 below). Im using ATI Hydro sponge filters in the mini size for all the tanks and want all of them to run off the 1 air pump with a gang valve to split everything. At the moment im using my TetraTec ASP100 but even though it seems to work, water flow isnt great- this model does say its for 50-100L but i dont know what its LPM rating is. How many litres per minute does a pump need to be rated at for this sized nano tank to give sufficient filtration?
  10. Bit of advise, I am looking at setting up air supply to 8 qty 2*18*18. 2 qty 4*18*18. and to extend in the future to a 4*2*2 and 6*2*2. I believe I am going to need a minimum of 60 l / min. But what I'd like to know is the difference between, electro magnetic piston pumps / standard pumps and air blowers
  11. Where's the best place and what's the biggest size air stones you can buy I have noticed some of the ones in pet shops are huge or are them air bars better
  12. Hi there - I am wondering if anyone has tried the piston air pumps available these days. I have found a small one on ebay that puts out 30l/min and draws 18watts for around $45 delivered. Has anyone had any experience with these or anything similar? Thanks John Model: Resun ACO-001 Power: 18W Voltage: 220/100V Frequency: 60/50Hz Pressure: >0.02MPa Output: 30L/min DIA.OF mouth: 8mm Spec.OF Divider: 4x1 Outlets Weight: 1.1kg Size: 180 x 95 x 115mm
  13. I have a 4x2x2 with 46in air bar and canister, just added internal filter with air tube, lots of small bubbles now circulating in tank , can I have too much oxygen in water?
  14. Hi all I'm currently running an Lp100 and a lp60 on the one circuit in the shed, I am going to set up a solar system to run air on. I'm considering getting these dc air pumps the are low wattage and have hi output Ie 35w put out 70l (lp60 is about 60w for 50l) So have you used them? Do the last or burn out quickly? Do the have the pressure to drive 2 foot deep? Are they as noisy as those cheap electro magnetic pumps? Would you recommend them? Or would running the lps on inverters be the better option.
  15. Hi all, i put some chemiclean into my reef tank today and added an air stone as per the instructions. Now my wife has decided she likes the look of the bubbles under the moon light so, could I keep it in there permanently? I've done a bit of research and everything I read that are potential issues is disproved with a counter argument, the same as most things in reef keeping lol. The only thing that I can see happening is salt creep which shouldn't affect me as the water level is over 10cm lower than the tank. Does anyone have any first hand experience? Thanks in advance. Cheers mick
  16. What's the most quiet air pump/value for money air pump?
  17. Hello guys and gals, got a question for ya. As I was leaving for work this morning I did my usual round of my fish tanks, saying morning/goodbye etc like every sad w@#$%r does. However, this morning I noticed that none of my sponges/air stones were working. Looks like my diaphragm has finally packed in as I can hear the air pump humming but the air output was low. I didn’t have time to change it and am not likely able to do anything about it until tomorrow. All the tanks are plumbed to a 6x2 sump that contains copious amounts of media, including Marine Pure, Matrix and K1. I have a lot of surface agitation in the tanks and have turned on all the wavemakers to provide extra circulation. All the water parameters are good (Am 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 PH 8.2) and the temp is 24. So my question is simply, should I be concerned I have no air going through the tanks or am I good seeing as I have a well-stocked sump and surface agitation for oxygen exchange? Thanks in advance…

  19. Hi guys Need your advice on which airpump I should be buying to run a 120 cm aircurtain on my 4foot 220 l tank Cheers
  20. Just looking for a descent sized pump for multiple tanks found this one online cheap, anyone got any reviews? How many 2ft tanks could you run off it roughly? Thanks mike
  21. Hi Guys. I have this resun 4 outlet air pump, and for some reason its only blowing air outta the 3 outlets? Its only about 6 months old. Can you pull the pump apart to see whats goin on? I think it still could be under warranty...
  22. Hi guys, after some advice on what would be an appropriate sized air pump to run up 24 sponge filters. I'm after something quiet and very reliable. Thanks in advance.
  23. Hi. I'm not sure if this is in the right spot but guess DIY covers repairs so here goes... I have a couple air pumps needing replacement diaphrams. I've managed to find and fit some, no problems. Where I am coming unstuck though is on trying to tension the bolt at the top of the diaphram, which connects to the magnet arm. Does anyone know of a technique or any tricks, tips etc for doing it? Blowing bubbles in a bucket doesn't really help much and adding air stones and tweaking while trying not to get wet and/or zapped... gotta be a better way? Cheers.
  24. Hi, pulling my hair out trying to work out how much air I need so i can buy a suitable pump for: 7 300mm (1ft) deep tanks running 11 small sponge filters and an airstone in each 3 450mm (18in) deep tanks running 3 outlet undergravel filters and an airstone in each 2 450mm (18in) deep tanks running 4 outlet undergravel filters and an airstone in each. At the moment I am running 3 tired old Aqua One 9500 air pumps rated 400 to 500 lph and these just do not push out quite enough air and blow diaphragms all the time. Also if I end up with a pump that blows too much air how do I set up a bleed valve to take the pressure off the pump. Hope someone can help. Thanks, Vic
  25. Hi all, Contemplating moving again and needing a battery powered air pump. Would also be nice to have one on hand for emergencies/power out situations. In the past I've had 2 - both broke very quickly. The first one was a cheap big W brand I picked up in the fishing section.... lasted about 30 minutes and then the internal plastic "arm" that was driven by the motor broke off... basically rendering it useless. The second one was an Aquaone brand - the 150 I think. It lasted a little longer... about 2 hours, then it also broke. When I pulled it apart I forget exactly what I found was wrong with it - but I remember my overall impression that basically it was incredibly cheap and dodgy looking inside. Anyway - looking for something reliable I could run on batteries for 12 hours or more if needed. I am willing to spend some money - I just dont want it to break!!! Any advice welcome thanks
