  11. ANGFA Qld has ditched it's clunky old website and is working on a new model that will hopefully be a lot more useful for everyone. As part of the change we've also decided to have a 12 month trial of making our monthly magazine 'In-Stream' publicly accessible and if after 12 months we've retained enough members, we're hoping to keep it that way. In-Stream covers a wide range of topics, including aquatic habitats and conservation, fish profiles, general husbandry, and travel stories. We've still got work to do, but if you're not familiar with ANGFA it might be worth a sticky beak. We're always looking for more articles so if you've got something interesting you'd like to share, let us know. I'm also happy to put up announcements and calendar entries from the fish-keeping community to let other ANGFA members know about them if you want to pass them on to me. At our meetings we have guest speakers, a shop with dry goods and books, and a (small) auction after the talk. There are always some fantastic bargains - last time we had display quality adult Bosemani breeders selling out at well under $10 each. The next meeting is June 12 and new faces are always welcome. It would be great to see some of you there.
  12. Just to let the ANGFA members know, the field trip to the sunshine coast this Sunday (21st April 2013) is still on. We will be going to lower Martins Creek. THis is the creek the runs through Buderum Falls (see first photo of the falls i took last weekend) The second site is the South Maroochy River below the Wappa Falls (see otehr photos). Should be a good trip, finishing with a BYO picnic/BBQ at Wappa Dam at 1pm. Hope a few members can come along and see what we can find after the recent flooding. The creeks certainly look in good condition and there are plenty of regular suspects around (rainbows and gudgeons).

  15. [TABLE=class: contentpaneopen, width: 624] [TR] [TD=colspan: 4]The ANGFA QLD Christmas Party this year will be held on Sunday 16 December 2012. It will be a family BBQ at the park beside Walton Bridge, which is on Waterworks Road at the Gap. October ANGFA meeting

Don’t forget about the next ANGFA QLD General Meeting this Friday 12 October. It will be held at the Bar Jai Hall in Clayfield, starting AT THE NEW START TIME OF 7.30 PM. The Queensland Wetlands Program will provide a speaker to talk about the Wetlands Program and related fish inventory work. This months auction should also be a good one. Do you know someone who’s interested in fish that isn’t a member? Why not bring them along for the evening?
  17. The ANGFA Qld April Meeting is being held this Friday (April 13 - details HERE). The talks should be good and the auction for the last couple of meetings have included a good range of blue eyes and rainbows (Australian and New Guinea) going for a couple of dollars each or less. There's usually a good selection of plants at the auction as well and the shop has discounted dry goods (foods, ferts, bags, books etc). It'd be great to see some new faces. Non-members are welcome to come along and check it out.

  20. The next Australian and New Guinea Fishes Association (ANGFA) QLD meeting is programmed for Friday 13 April. Gavin Brown will be speaking about turtles and Greg Ure will speak about his fish-farm tours in Singapore (following Aquarama). ANGFA QLD meetings are held at the Bar Jai Hall in Clayfield, Brisbane (Alexandra St, near the intersection with Sandgate Road). Meetings are held on the second Friday of every second month, starting in February (unless they clash with a public holiday or long weekend). Meetings start at 8.00 pm and usually end at around 11.00 pm. Meetings generally consist of two talks and end with an auction of fish and plants. We run a drink stall, a raffle, and a small shop that sells fish food, plastic bags, nets, books, etc. We conduct Field trips at various times during the year so that our members can catch their own. You can find the ANGFA QLD website here: The Home of ANGFA(Qld) - Home
  21. The ANGFA Queensland AGM is on this Friday Night (9/12/11) at 8:00. We have a couple of great talks lined up and it's usually the best auction of the year. It's also time for members to vote in next year's committee, so come along and have your say if you're a member and feel free to sign up if you're not. It's at the Bar Jai Hall, Clayfield
  22. The ANGFA Qld February Meeting is being held this Friday (Feb 11 - details HERE). It was good to meet some of you guys at the QAH auction, feel free to come and check out the ANGFA meeting. You don't have to join up but at $20 it won't break the bank .
  23. The next ANGFA Qld meeting is Friday August 13 at 8:00 pm at 178 Alexandra Rd, Clayfield. The talks will be from: - Glynn Aland who is talking about the Chinchilla area of the Upper Murray Darling; - Joel Huey who will speak about catfish; and (time permitting) - Leo O'Reilly will give a species talk on desert gobies. The shop will be open and the auction will run after the talks for the bargain hunters. Membership has been dropped to $20 this year so it's a great opportunity to join up. Members are also invited to participate in field trips. The next one is on Sunday 21 August in the Gold Coast hinterland.
  24. The next ANGFA QLD meeting is on this Friday 18 June, 8:00pm. The speakers are Justin Guest, who recently returned from Germany where he designed the aquarium systems for Germany’s largest hobby fish retailer, and Jodi-Lea Matheson, who many of you know from FishChick Aquatics. The next field day is on 20 June. We are assisting the Redland City Council (RCC) with a public information day about native fish and plants and the local waterways. It will run from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, at the ‘Redlands Indigiscapes Centre’, Runnymede Rd in Capalaba. Steve Baines will set up a display tank with both native and introduced fish. ANGFA will be there to educate the public about native fish and plants and why they shouldn’t release aquarium fish into the waterways.
  25. ANGFA Qld general meeting this Friday (9 April), 8:00 pm at the Bar Jai Community Hall (178 Alexandra Road Clayfield). We have three speakers programmed: * Brad Chapman from Prestige Pets will speak about the ‘Prestige’ line of fish food and ‘Aquapics’ water buffers (and hopefully will have some samples for us). * Leo Lee will speak about collecting M. duboulayi in SE QLD and his genetic work on those fish. * Jodi-Lea Matheson will give us a fascinating insight into keeping and breeding shrimps. The prize for this month’s raffle is a bag of goodies donated by Jodi-Lea Matheson of Fishchick Aquatics. The late Doug Collom has donated his collection of fish books to our library, and these should be available for loan shortly. We will also have some of his tanks and equipment for sale at the auction. Steve Baines is bringing some trophy fish to auction at the meeting this Friday, including large male incisus, and several types of tris (banded rainbowfish). He also has some stunning sword plants. We also want to finalise the orders for Adrian Tappin’s book (last chance). ANGFA QLD general meetings are open to non-members.
