  1. Ok tonight I got a letter from Energex, informing me that on the 13th of June they are going to cut the power for 6 hrs from 8.30 am till 2.30 pm. In the middle of bloody winter. FFS !!!!! My situation. 1:a rack of 9 2ft tanks all on sponge filters with a large aerator powering the lot through a loop of irrigation pipe. - said rack has 6 cold water rainbow tanks (rhads, blue eyes) and 3 tropical tanks (PNG Rainbows). - non of these tanks are over stocked, so I am not worried about a lack of air for 6 hours nor am I worried about heat as two of the tropical tanks contain Boesmani that until the beginning of May were in an out door pond. In any case my rack and garage are well insulated. 2:Where I am worried is my planted indoor display tank, which is a mixed tropical tank. - it contains about $300 dollars worth of Tetras, Hatchet Fish and miscellaneous tropicals and nerite snails. - It is a Juwel 120 Lido - I have a jaeger 100w on it. - I have an Eheim 2213 on it. - and aeration from an aerator and obviously no CO2. -the tank is planted. - the tank can best be described as heavily stocked for effect. Given that it is the middle of winter, my main concerns are. -Heat or lack of. -The bacteria dying in the canister. -a lack of oxygen due to the heavy stocking of the tank. Obviously I can add a battery powered aerator. That isn't the issue. I am more concerned about a canister full of dead bacteria. Should I be concerned for 6 hours ? I have heard you can request a generator from Energex for this eventuality. Should I be worried or just go with it for 6 hours, its not that long really. Thoughts people.
  2. For almost a year I've been leaving a bag of massivore pellets on a metre high cabinet in the fish room. Went to feed them yesterday and couldn't find the bag...bloody dog. Needless to say he didn't get fed last night. I only opened the bag a couple of weeks ago-he ate 3/4's of a bag. I'll post a pic of the culprit on the weekend.

  7. Once again I have attended the new years celebration at the Ipswich football club. He has done an awesome job to give the young and young at heart a good show of fire works! It was amazing to see the reactions from the kids. He also has rock climbing, large slide, a massive swing, a spinning carriage, and a large jumping castle. There is a smaller jumping castle and merry-go-round for the younger children. The best thing about all this you will not break the budget as all the rides are free, yes free!!!! I know it may be too late this time to bring the kids out but it is a must see for next year. Thanks again Paul HM

  11. As I've mentioned before, my lad said right from the start of taking up breeding that he wouldn't buy breeding pairs. He preferred to buy juvies from different lines and grow 'em up. Not the most cost effective way but nevertheless. Went into the fish room this morning and Mr festae had beaten the crap out of his missus. It took us near on 18 months to get these to breeding size and there was only 8 survivors from the last (first) brood which I left in the tank 'cause I wanted her to put on some weight before she went again. Mr festae obviously wasn't happy with her looking after the kids when he wanted his end away again. She's now alone in a 2footer (all I've got spare) and hopefully she'll come good again. All that time getting 'em to size and not a spot of bother...........they breed and seem happy and then something changes during the night...............she must have had a headache or something? Back to the drawing board and building some dividers. kev

  15. Got the spot on my clown loaches in my display tank. Contents include Firemouths Parrots silver sharks rainbow shark. Clowns are the only fish showing signs of the spot and only 2 out of 4 at that . Got the spot remedy today in the tank (noticed it yesterday) did a 30% water change added salt and bumped up the temp on heaters to 29 deg . Heard about a uv filter and was assured by a salesman (of course ) that it would take care of the problem. Anyone heard of these and do they work ??? Tonight is thursday and if i get a positive responce to this thread i will have such filter in my tank by lunch friday. I do not want to loose my fish! Anything at all would be appreciated!!!!!! Thanx Josh
