  1. Went down to my local Bunnings yesterday and went to the plants section and was surprised when the pond they were housing the pond plants in was packed with some sort of rainbow! There was at least 20 large ones and heaps of baby's it made me happy that they didn't put in goldfish which I hate. I didn't get to take a photo but they look at lot like this image from Google. Also are any other Bunnings like this and is Rainbow Nardoo a good pond plant? I bought it from there.
  2. Just wondering if anyone knows of Richgro's Washed Play Sand from Bunnings is OK to use in a fresh water Australian native tank, has anyone used it or knows if it's suitable? Also, I have some left over ADA Amazonia Soil, could I use that as a bottom layer then place sand over the top, then planted Vallisneria nana and other native Australian plants? Would it be suitable for Spotted Blue Eyes as well as some native shrimp? Cheers.

  5. I am setting up a new tank being a 6x2x2 and wanted a sand substrate rather than the usual boring gravel. After reading forums till i went blind i was torn between two different types the Bunnings play sand and a Triple washed white sand from my local nursery I grabbed a 20 kg bag of each and washed them and let them sit for an hour or so then i would test the PH levels of each. I am using the API Fresh Water Master test kit I did a base line on the mains water and it came back as 7.2 I then tested the triple washed sand and it came in at around 7.0 I tested the Bunnings play sand and that went blue within a second being 7.6, i thought maybe i should run the PH high test and that came back an 8.4:confused: What are your thoughts?

  13. Hi, I have been suggested using play sand from bunnings warehouse as a substrate for my new setup. Would this be ideal? It is much cheaper than substrate bought from aquariums. I am looking to put Africans in my new setup, and most likely no plants. Any help would be great, I plan to buy this weekend. Thanks
