  1. We will be closed over Christmas from the 25th to the 28th of December and also on the 1st January. We are also very close to the changing of our website which will give it a facelift as well as better functionality especially for phone and tablet people. In the upcoming week we will preparing for the change over and there will be a few changes mainly in the menu for preparing for the change over. I know there is still a day to go but would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, as well wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope all your Christmas wishes come true - be safe and hope the new year brings even bigger and better things for you all. Merry Christmas from us all at The Tech Den
  2. We have been busy in the background working on a few different projects and looks like this one will be due next week. MarinePure Rock, if I am not over thinking it - it might be a bit of a game changer. We have always looked at different ways to reduce the cost of running tanks and this might be a perfect solution. One of major thoughts I have had on this is that it provides a greater filtration capacity for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. From all the information that I have been tossing around it would seem that it can be used as in tank filtration which means $0 running cost and there seems to be a multitude of applications. What I have taken in is that as the bacteria colonises it will create a bio film that will assist to convert Ammonia, Nitrite and as it matures it will also create a deep anaerobic zones for de-nitrification. To me $0 running costs and when matured nitrate reducing meaning less water changes or just better water conditions seems to be a massive plus. Where can it be used - well probably the better question is where can it not be used. It is inert and does not change your water properties so it can be used in a range of fresh water applications, planted tanks with the man made rock being molded from actual rock to give a natural scape. Various different bio types as it there is no water property change. For saltwater perfect for the live rock alternative with a massive surface area from its porous composition. There are no hitch hikers so you do not add something that you do not want. At this stage we are still looking at the pricing so please do not take any notice of the listed price on our site. 3. We have decided to get in the Laguna Pumps and also Airlabs Hi Flow Air pumps - The AirLabs are great value and getting some really good feed back on them - they come from the same people that bought you Miracle Lights and Shogun Heaters. The AirLabs range from 30-120 lpm and are very energy efficient which is important with the current power costs. AirLab Hi Flow Air Pumps Laguna Pumps

  5. It looks like the dates are coming together for Ad Konings to come to Australia and all going according to plan it looks like for Queensland at least the temporary date at this time is the 14th March which should be confirmed later in the year. For things like this to happen it all costs money and the same for bringing new information from the lakes and the costs for his expeditions and one of the ways is through his Cichlid Press Books. This is one of the main reasons we support Cichlid Press and have them as cheap as what we do. It goes to a good cause that helps the hobby. Although it can be easy to simply google information - the best and more importantly correct information seems to come from him. His books are awesome reference materials available and if you know anyone with one of his books ask them what they think. If you have one of his books, and you do not mind add to this post and tell people what you think. It all goes to a good cause. Now for the prizes. The Tech Den are going to give away two books - not just any book and not a cheap book either. It will be the Celebrating Cichlids book and it will be personally signed by Ad Konings himself. The first book will be for the best Cichlid Press Book review based on the reviews below. The second book that we give away will be a lucky dip - and all you have to do is buy a Cichlid Press Book from us and be a QLDAF member in the next 3 months. So make sure you use the QLDAF discount when you purchase. The books that qualify are as follows. Aquarium Fish Books The Back to Nature range of books. Celebrating Cichlids Enjoying Cichlids 2nd Ed by Ad Konings Malawi Cichlids In their natural habitat 4th Ed South American Dwarf Cichlids Tropheus in their Natural Habitat This is what the prize looks like -
  6. After a bit of toing and froing we have decided to go ahead and stock ADA. There have been a few posts on here and requests for it and time to get it all sorted. I would like to hear what everyone wants. I can order in what I think you want but its all a bit of a waste if I get it wrong and not get what you want. So if you like your ADA and there are certain ones you like, would love to hear from you and what you would like to see on our shelves. Stock is about 4 weeks away but just need to arrange the logistics and pallets and the range. Thanks...

  20. Hi everyone, just lookign for some opinions from some of you knowledgable people I have recently set up a 4x3x2 (L x h x w) medium planted tank and have 2x20cm air bubbler/tubes running of a double outlet airpump. This is in addition to running a spray bar (submersed) and direct inlet from our 2 canister filters. We are trying to keep our tank between 28.5 and 29.5 degrees. Tank inhabitants inlcude 2 corys and 4 blue rams at this stage. Is this enough airation? I notice the corys coming up to the surface mainly at night and was wondering if it was because there is not enough oxygen in the water? Water parameters seem fine (0 ammonia 0 Nitrite and 5ppm Nitrate) but ph is 7.5.
