  1. Hi all, Does anyone know where i could purchase glass/acrylic for custom built aquariums? Planning on building myself one in the near future, so trying to see what is out there to plan it out. Name all the places i can find the best quality to the not so good quality glasses so i can compare and research. If you know any places that supply acrylic, name them also! Much appreciated, Kev.
  2. Hi all Just wondering where everyone else has been to get a custom made tank and stand and if they found the quality of their work lived up to their standards. Im looking to get a Quote for a 6x2x2 With Starfire front and side. Then a quote with just the front in starfire. Cheers, Jake
  3. Hi guys, brought a new tank and need some advice on the filter system. The current filter system is a nightmare to prime, so everytime I do any work on it, it results in a nightmare to get going again. Once running it is fine. However I have recently removed the filter socks as the were blocked solid and was looking to buy some new socks. I left the socks out and started the tank back up and this generated quite a bit noise from the water in the sock section, basically it sounds like it is cavitating due to the pump pulling through the filter system. The Foam Filter and UV drum is about 35L and each of the bio filter drums are 30L and packed completely full of ceramic knoddles and lava balls, so should be an awesome system, just want to make it easier to work with and functioning as best as possible. This got me thinking and I came up with rerouting the plumbing and pulling the water from the tank and pushing it through the filter system. This should make it very easy to prime and the water will pull straight from tank and into pump. Only downside I see is crap from the tank will get sucked through the pump, however I am not sure it is going to affect the pump as it is only fish poo etc I have attached a diagram of the current setup and then the proposed. Need some advice from the filter experts...... any advice would be appreciated. Aquarium is 10ft x 2ft x 2ft and will be housing mostly large Americans, so plenty of mess Mind you, since removing the socks it primed straight up and sucked any air straight through the system and started right back up. When I removed the socks they were completely blocked and I could fill them with water and is trickled off rye bottom of the sock, was lucky it hadn't burnt the pump out already from strained so hard to draw water through the system

  5. Considering getting a custom built 80x80x80cm (height maybe 60 or 70 depending on price) big cube. Would be a planted tank that can be viewed from all sides. I have never had any experience with custom tank builds, any ideas on what something like this would cost?

  8. Hey everyone, I am currently having renovations done and in the process getting a 6x2x3 (LWH) tank installed within a wall. Need some help with filtration options... Sump was my initial plan, maybe a refugium but thinking I could plumb it within the wall and hide it away in the cabinet underneath. What size sump would I need? Also I'm planning for discus, is there anything I need to know that they are specific to regarding filtration? And can anyone recommend any places/people to get custom built aquariums in Brisbane? Thanks heaps, Alex.

  15. Hi just wanted to show off my new LED's they are not DIY but the stand is. The lights are Ecotech Radion XR30W, I bought 2 for my 6x2x2 Tang tank and am hoping it is enough. All up the stand has cost about $150 dollars to assemble and here is the parts list, I have not elaborated on the bolts but if you need info let me know. The stand is made of From Bunnings: 24.5mm aluminium boxing 1800mm and 600mmx2 lengths( I cut these down to about 490mm I think) plastic corner connectors and end caps 16x12mm aluminium u shaped 5/16 threaded rod and associated bolts, wing nuts and rubber grommets Felt for inside U shaped aluminium to protect glass. From Umart: Brateck Projector mount( this can be adjusted to fit to the lights easily and I have custom fit it to the frame, let me know if you want more details on this) I have made it tall enough and with a height adjust system so that I can easily change the spread of light to the maximum and minimum ecotech recommend and everything in between. I can also remove the Light fixtures with a single wing nut. I still have to paint it all black and see how it goes in use to see if I want to make any changes The pictures show one light connected, the second one is waiting as the second projector mount is on back order at umart.

  23. My housing situation, being in a share house, means that my Aquaria is limited to one room, being my bedroom. Hence I'm interested in utilising the 3 feet between my 4fter and my desk with some sort of multi-tanked setup. However, it being in my bedroom, I would like it to hold some aesthetic/display value, as well as having closed cupboard space for cannisters etc. Hence I was wondering if two tiered cabinets are readily available for 2ft tanks? I could possibly stretch it to 3ft if that were the only option. Would it be as easy as posting a WTB on the forum? Or would it be a custom built affair? If so can anyone recommend me an expert willing to tackle such a task in the name of capital interest / innovation!?

  25. Ok so as some of you may remember I'm in the progress of doing a nano marine tank using a skimz ibox nano marine. The tank itself has a skimmer and filter inbuilt but it does not come with an incorporated chiller. I did some shopping around and the cheapest I could find was a 1/15 hp chiller that was going to cost over $300 so I set about making my own. The best way I found to do it was using pretty much the same principles and components for water cooling a computer. The parts I used/ordered: - 1 bi-metal cooling plate - 1 water block - 1 large CPU heat sync and fan - A variable flow 100 - 200lph submersible pump - A dc power converter - And last but not least a thermostat control chip with a probe so the chiller will work of a set temperature Everything but the bi metal plate arrived today so I have mounted the fan on the heat sync, wired the fan, chip and power and mounted the chip to the heat sync housing. So far the only problem I'm having is getting the thermostat to run properly so that will require further tinkering once the probe has finished water proofing. Can't wait to get it all running and test the limits of it's cooling power More progress reports and pics to come
