  1. Woke up today to find my serenity swp4000 sump pump running very slow, water barely trickling into the overflow. took it out, cleaned up the pre filter (which wasnt very dirty but did it anyway) had a look at the impeller and everything seemed ok. Re-plumbed it, plugged it in and it tripped everything out. had to break out a spare canister for the time being (which isnt cycled so its running with no media from sump to tank). I recently changed the return piping basically being 2 hard 90 degree elbows to reduce footprint of return on top of the tank; is this likely my downfall? Too much restriction on the return line? Using bunnings 19mm irrigation hose with the pope 90 degree eblows, all clamped on.
  2. Hi all. Not a great start to the day. Last night I decided I would add some blanched pumpkin to the tank to feed my bristlenose catfish. I usually stick with Zucchini but wanted to change it up a bit. Anyway I blanched it in a small bowl of just boiled water and then microwaved it in the water for 20 seconds (didn't really do much I know). I put it in the tank and when I woke this morning and checked on them all the rainbows were nose down tail up. They all had deep colours and what not and no damage to their bodies, no ripped fins, no redness or inflammation that I could see from looking over them once they were out. The only thing that's changed was the pumpkin. Their tankmates are 4 albino bristlenose and a big SAE. They were Coen River Trifas. Now I know nothing I can do will bring them back but I just wanted to know why it happened. Does anybody have any insight so I can learn and help others in the future? I know I wont be trying pumpkin again that's for sure. Thanks for your help in advance, Eric.

  4. Hi everyone. It is a sad day. Patrick, my white knight, got his ass kicked this morning and has died as a result of his extensive injuries. The other fish involved was my juvenile male cobalt blue who has lost most of his tail and half of his dorsal. Currently he is floating around in a hospital tank. He will probably not make it either. It all started when I accidentally added a new fish...a small holding yellow lab....I did have her in a holding trap/net on the side of the tank but she leapt out during the water change and I was unable to catch her due to there being loads of rocks and it is a big tank. Anyway, Patricks behaviour changed when she entered the tank and he was getting a too bold and bit full of himself. I did warn him...but did he listen? NO. He blatantly flaunted himself..strutting and shaking his thing in front of all the mbunas... the cobalt thought he needed to be put back in his place...Patrick was the only non-mbuna in the tank...and now he's dead. He has been added to the fish coffin (chinese takeaway container) in the freezer. RIP Patrick.
  5. Hi Guys, Unfortunately this poor guy didn't make it, found it on my parents property there were actually a few. They have a creek running through their backyard, which later became a river due to the intense rainfall friday. When the water levels dropped it left some fish behind. I only discovered them today. There was a small amount of blue shading on its gills, that doesn't photo. Below is the photo I apologize if the photo offends some. Cheers

  10. Hey everyone, in the past 6 days i've lost 3 of my marbled longfin bristlenose They're about 6cm total and i've found them with the colour drained out but no sign of disease or parasites, their bodies are still firm aswell The water params are 0 amm, 0 nitrite, 30 nitrate, 6.6-6.8pH, 25C. 2 foot tank filtered by a fluval 205 Any ideas? I've only got 9 left :/
  11. Hi guys trying to get the lighting set up for my breeding rack up and running, these are non plant tanks so not using flash led cree set ups just plain simple led strips to illuminate the tanks, anyway I have found that old gutted aquarium fluro light housings make good homes for LED strip lights. I need only 3 x 3ft, single or twin fluro not bothered, prefer knackered ones, but if anyone has any old T8 housing you don't want anymore or wanna sell cheap, Im your man, please pm me. Phil This kind of thing, nothing fancy, I just want it for the housing.
  12. Some advice would be appreciated please. I have some dead coral and I have been scrubbing it. It has dead critters in it that when wet become soft used to be barnacles by the look of it. Just wondering whether it would be ok in a tank with Africans, it would be a shame to smash the coral up if I don't have to. I have boiled it, I didn't think bleaching it would be a good idea as the critters would absorb it. It appears as an algae stuff that I would imagine the fish could eat. Thanks

  19. Hell qldaf members I have access to bore water and was wondering if I was able to use it for water changes? Even if it's 50/50 tap water to bore. I understand that bore water has alot more minerals and such, but will it harm my fish? Thanks you

  21. So i need some advice, my first power head that came with my AR380 tank lasted for over 3 years, and my replacement one has just died after less then 1.5 years. does anyone know if spending the money on a new ar380 power head is going to be worth the close to $50 from a pet store or just buying another one that is similar to do the same job? anyone know of any that fit in the same spot as the AR380's? your help is greatly appreciated

  23. Last night I was doing a water change on my 4ft corydoras trils tank and noticed after i had removed half the water that in one corner there were nearly 50 eggs on the glass, they were no longer under water, I splashed some water on them to make sure they didn't dry out and quickly refilled the tank....will these eggs die? they were really dark and ready to hatch too This morning the females were spawning again and lots of new eggs everywhere but will be helpful to know for next water change if its OK or if they'll just fungus and die. Anyone know?
