  3. Does anyone know if Myleus rubripinnis "luna" - "Luna" Red Hook Silver Dollar are common in Oz? I saw one today and thought "I want some of them" What are they worth? Juvenile size, around 8cm Are the spots just a random trait found in red hooks? or are the a species of their own?
  4. I got 3 new Spotted Dollars yestaday to go with the 3 I already had (Thinking they were the same). But they look a bit different. My old ones have red/orange belly and front fins, normal colour eyes. The new ones have red/pinky cheeks, Black eyes and one has a red mark behind the eyes. The original ones I have a "Metynnis lippincottianus". Anyone tell me what the name is for my new ones? Here is a video of them all together.
  5. Hi Guys, I just notice that one of my SD's has a massive lump/swelling in between the body and the tail fin. It is almost twice as wide as the fishes body and is whiteish/reddish in colour. The fish is swimming fine. All other fish are fine. 8x2x2 with: 2x FX5's 2x 1200lph internal power filter Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate <5 Any ideas????
  6. Ok, a quick one, I inherited a silver dollar that I house with a mate for about 6 months. It used to spook easily and go pretty crazy at times banging against the side of the aquarium. Just two weeks ago I relocated it to a large tank at my mothers place, where it has seemingly been a lot more settled. Until today... I just received a call from my not so little sister, she seems concerned. She has just explained to me that there is something wrong with the 'big silver fish', it went crazy and banged against the tank pretty hard, she said it swam upside down, on it side, settled and then had another fit and bang against the tank pretty hard. Now its just kinda resting at the bottom... I am not 100% sure what to do. I assume it has been spooked and possibly knocked it self out? The tank is a 6x2x3 and he has been with two danios and two pleckos and a couple of clown loaches for most of his life. I relocated all these fish into my parents tank, which is currently also home to a number of very small African cichlids that are waiting to be relocated to my 8f. I hace watched the fish for hours in the past and nothing really out of the ordinary, the silver dollar seemed fine, they occupied the top half of the tank while the Africans and the plecko occupied the bottom half. Not sure if I shoudl expect the fish to recover, or if I should inter vein? My sisters is just watching, keeping an eye on it, I told her not to worry too much, but to call me if it doesn't come good soon, or if she sees any fish hassling it. Any help or info appreciated.

  8. Hi everyone, I saw a couple of these fish at a store in stones corner about 6 months ago. They looked like silver dollars, however they were black and had what appeared to be a couple of rainbow coloured spots on their side. I don't have any pictures but i'm sure someone must know what i'm talking about? Scientific name/Common Name/Does anyone know where you can get them? Cheers

  10. Just noticed this growth on both sides of one of my silver dollars. It is raised and quite large. This has only appeared in the last week after being transferred to their new tank. Can anyone advise on what it is and how to treat. Thanks Dave
