  1. Does anyone know where to get plastic egg crate in Cairns?
  2. Hi guys, just wanted some opinions on what could be wrong with one of the Saulosi girls. For 2 days the male has been showing her a lot of attention and she seemed gravid. Yesterday I noticed her staying quiet away from the rest of the colony at the other end of the tank. She did not eat last night. This morning she is swollen around the vent area (see photo) she doesn't seem to have issues swimming but is very slow and lethargic. She has been sitting near the surface although she has no issues getting to the bottom and doesn't seem to have balance or buoyancy problems. all other members of the tank are active and behaving normally. Ive put her into the net fry saver for so that she can escape the males attention. could she be egg bound and if so what is the best approach to help her? Water parameters this morning are as follows; ph 8 gh between 80-100 kh between 80-100 ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 5 temp 27 the diet is mixed up of; The Tech Dens Aqua-Delight growth pellet (protein 43% Fiber 4% moisture 12% fat 5%) Hikari Cichlid Gold (protein 40% fat 7% Fiber 4% moisture 10% ash 15% phosphorus 1%) TetraMin Tropical Crisps frozen brine shrimp and cichlid mix from Aquarium Industries they also tend to give the plecos algae and vege wafers a good much as well as nibble and graze on the fresh veggies such as zuc, spinach, squash occasionally thats about as much info I can think of to provide that might help but if I've missed something please ask. any help appreciated. cheers guys

  4. hi everyone i have bought an egg tumbler and using it with some success. I have noticed that i loose a lot of eggs, dieing going furry, is this normal?, does the female chilid holding them just spit the dead ones out. I'm letting them "bounce" only the smallest amount thinking they wouldn't be bouncing all round the mouth, just rolling round.I strip the female a few days after i find she has them in her mouth, and over the next 2 weeks in the tumbler i gradually loose sometimes about harlf of the starting total by the time they are big enough to release. i have between 60 to 100 eggs at a time form to females. Maybe is it to many in the tumbler? can someone shed any light on the subject. thank you in advance

  6. Just wondering if I'm using my egg tumbler incorrectly, or if it just isn't suitable for sticky Cory eggs. They stick to the bottom and sides, so don't actually 'tumble' and a couple have gone bad (fuzzy) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Ok, I have Sterbai Corys in my display.I have a breeding colony too, but put 4 in the display. Normally I ignore the one or two eggs they lay and let them be eaten..however, today there's gotta be over a hundred eggs. I'd like to move them... But they're all over the damn glass. So, how do you guys get em off without killing em? No, to answer the obvious Q, I will not be taking the other fish out.. if you think ima spend a day trying to catch bn and danios in a planted tank, you're Cray-Z.
  14. OK I forgot to buy a few to play with on me days off today but these Age of Aquariums - Sponge Filter - Nano are going to be a lot of fun to mod heck I suspect I can just remove the media attach a suction cup to the base or side and bobs your uncle but we shall see! If you are thinking for venustus then lol these are very small! But they should be very handy for shrimp eggs espec if you lose a berried up female and want to save the babies. or for small batches from young cichlids or cattys so yes a boring thread so far but figured I post it now and then, I will remember to buy a few on wed and put my theory to the test!
  15. hey guys im just curious i got some fry in the egg tumbler the female spat them out at 7 days and they have been in here for 2 today. can you tell me how long it will be before i can chuck them in a different tank with some bristlenose? they have hatched there is distinct body shape just they still have egg sacks they are full of life non stop buzzing around and they are probably half a centimeter? they are africans btw Cheers
  16. hey guys i got a few african eggs in my egg tumbler this is the first time i have used one just wondering how much movement should the eggs have should they just roll around the bottom or bounce up and down ?
  17. I have a 3 ft tank with catties in there and the other day i spoted some eggs kicked out.Put them in the tumbler and didnt think much of it. Now the mystery is that i have a mix of different breeds in there. There are a trio of pepps which havent laid a pair of 104s which have never laid 1 longfin marble female and 1 common male bn which i gave up on catching. So today i decided to put the 104s and the pepps in my 5x2x2.5 planted tank as every catty i put in there breeds for me. So i stripped the tank of all the logs and wood caught the fish and proceeded to wash the logs out as i have snails in this tank and didnt want to transfer them into my planter When i washed out the log the male common was in there was a clutch of eggs in there as well. I thought that these eggs where just common bn but there was 1 lone male in there. So my thoughts are either the 104s have laid and the common has taken over fanning or the pepps have laid and the male has taken over there eggs. The eggs are very dark orange.Darker than what normal bn eggs look. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen before.I have both batches of eggs in the tumbler and they have just started hatching. So i guess time will tell. And can common and pepps crossbreed.Because i thought they couldnt. Cheers Leigh
  18. I usually don't worry about kicked out eggs, but there was a big bunch today so i thought it would be interesting to see them grow up. I've got water pushing up from an internal into a fry saver. I've got a rock in there so the eggs stay neat the middle. Hopefully this means that water will keep pushing past them?
  19. Early this morning I woke to find... Now comes the trick of keeping them kicking.
  20. has any one tryied this one of ebay and is it any good for frontosa 3 NEW STYLE EGG TUMBLERS AQUARIUM TROPICALFISH CICHLIDS | eBay thanks
  21. hey guys....Have one nice big female ranchu and she has a swollen stomach and vent...she is eating occasionally...but the vibe Im getting is egg binding(and from other opinions)...swims perfectly fine etc(bit lethargic though)but worried If i cant get any clogged eggs free it might get too infected and then its game over...starting to realise why some breeders run a salt bath for females before breeding season....wondering if anyone had any experience/advice on best way to free up her stomach????!?!?... am using anti fugal treament at the moment (have been for the last week) so Im buying time so to speak to try and get an answer for releasing the eggs or breaking down any clogged material in the stomach...anyone had experience using epsom salt and warmer water???.....any other things I can look at?? help!?!?!?!?
  22. Ok everyone, it was a tight finish at the end, resulting in a threeway tie with the entries in the competition - http://www.qldaf.com/forums/product-diy-technical-discussion-11/new-egg-tumbler-diy-instructions-61178/index5.html It gives me pleasure to announce the winner as being sparky124578 (Marty) for his submission being- "Good idea my daughter has been at me to make a tumbler but I haven't yet so this will save me.But more importantly if I get this for nothing it means that I can justify a trip to Brisbane to check out the lfs ,pick up some more fish, maybe meet some fellow fish nerds n have a fishy day so that is why I want it please Cheers Marty" Thanks to everyone for your interest, it was fun and I hope it inspires others to push outside the envolope. Thanks also to BNJ for chosing the winner from our threeway tie. Cheers Alan
  23. been toying with an idea for a new egg tumbler you have not seen the likes of before. dont really have the time to go into production and besides the cheapscapes are only gunna try and copy it lol. sooo will consider doing a DIY thread very shortly...stay tuned:razz:
  24. Hi guys, Just watching my fish tank and it seems to have a batch of eggs behind a loosened suction cup for the spray bar of the filter. Here's the image And here are the possible parents -Angelfish -Glass Catfish -Tetras(Columbian and Diamond) -Zebra Danios -Guppies -Bristlenose -Cories Of which, i'm guessing only the Zebra danios, or the Bristlenose could have done it. So, i'm wondering whose these eggs belong to and also is it possible to move them somewhere else(as in another tank) because i have angels in this tank that will eat the eggs/fry.
