1. Can anyone tell me the way to sex a male and female Empire Gudgeon please, are the fins different to look at to tell a male between a female? Cheers.
2. I got a few of these beauties from fishmagnet101 (they are great, love them) and just have a question about WHEN they flare red. I was wondering why it only flares the red colours every now and again instead of all the time. What is the trigger for the display?

7. I have noticed recently that one of my smaller male Empire Gudgeons has a large number of white spots on his dorsal whereas my others have next to nothing. I this a maturity thing? Do they lose the spots as they mature? Is it region specific? - some of my Gudgeons were collected from different spots. Here is the male I am talking about: Some Others: Cheers Jarrod

10. Just wondering if anyone here has bred (or currently does breed) Empire Gudgeons. there are only a very few resources around the net on breeding them. the majority of which state that its easy to breed them, but next to impossible to raise the fry due to their severely under-developed state. they are apparently too small to eat BBS or rotifers. Infusoria or precapsulated food (under 60 microns) seems to eb the recommended food. and to only raise 1/10th of the spawn. this makes me think that most of the Empire Gudgeons in the industry must be wild caught. even though they spawn upto 3000 fry at a time, this must be putting a bit of a strain on their numbers in the wild, so for sustainability and for the challenge i thought i'd have a go at it. i have bought 6 very young juveniles. i picked what i thought to be 3 males and 3 females....but it looks like i may have 4 males and 2 females. so i was wondering if anyone has done this before, and if they'd care to share their secrets ?
11. hey guys a few of my empire gudgeons have started to colour up, took a shot of this male hope you like it. cheers pete
