  2. Got a empty 4x18x18 and no matter what i do with it, it slowly becomes epmty again. Its in a hallway, i walk past it every day, and yet its empty....well pretty much. Has some odd balls in there, but yeah, empty. I keep a large yank tank, a mixed tropical tank, a goldfish tank, a bricardi tank, a tang tank and drum roll, a snail tank. I keep a qt tank, so this leaves the four foot. Kinda feels too small for some fish but too big for others Thoughts, ideas? Has a sponge and internal, with sand/ gravel mixed substrate, but have ooddles of both if i wanted just either. What....to.....do....... O_o

  6. Virtually all crustaceans do it this way. This is a close up of the eye that has had its fresh eye pulled from with in the eyes outing coating as the cray does with all of its body mass, just leaving an empty shell that looks and is perfect in every way. You can see some stuff growing on the shell, that is partly why the cray sheds a part from the only way it can increase in size. The new cray exists by breaking the cartilages join between the tail and carapace and out it goes, if it works and if one half doesn’t get stuck and then its history. They need the right foods or they will die in this process and I have seen this maybe ten times now from start to finish. Each hair of thousands and eyes, legs, etc, etc are pulled from with in the old one or they are rolled up like an intestine especially if a limb was lost, this is by the cray producing a mucus between the old and new that holds with in it a signature chemical that accidentally lets predators know there is some tasty soft dinner at the end of that scent. The female has a special chem for up to 24 hours leading up to a shed that tells the males that she is ready to be fertilised, but it has to be done once she has shed, before the shell hardens or its all over till the next shed. Sometimes we find a lot of males near one newly shed female. If you find a freshly shed cray look closely around as there will be their main predator a part from the ocy, a wobby will be close by. There is no shell now so boil it and you eat the entire cray, no hard shell at all!

  8. Came home to my fighter fish dead today....pretty devastated, had him for 5 years (before I even found this place I think) He has his own little tank with a heater filter and some java fern. Never thought hed die, or when he did he would at least look sick then die He just went...overnight Walked into my bathroom, he usually greets me, now its just empty Might have to go pet shop surfing tomorrow to find the 'perfect' one to replace him Feeling poo.....

  19. Hey All, I have just aquired my 6'L x 18"W x 2'H tank for my big American's and i am looking at using white sand for substrate and as you all know, it looks amazing once settled. I was wondering if it's going to be better to fill my tank with water then add the sand or add the sand when completely empty. I do realise i have to wash and wash and wash and drain off the finer sand so there heavier sand sinks to the bottom, but when adding it if it's more effective to do it with an almost full of water tank or a completely empty one. Your help and input will be greatly appreciated. :) Cheers!! Shanoz
  20. Hello people. I have this nice 5/2/2 with about 25 display cichlids in it. other than that, the tank is bare. no gravel, no rocks and no plants. Heres my thoughts. I reckon the person who comes up with the best idea for the tank, it will be implemented. I will put photos up throughout the decorating of the tank as well so everyone can marvel. To make things interesting lets keep the budget to $300. start those brain engines.
  21. Does anyone know if it's safe to keep an empty tank on top of a cabinet that is smaller than the tank, which leaves the edges of the tank overhanging? Tank in question is 4x2x2, 10mm glass. Need to put it somewhere for 2-3days while I fix the stand up, and don't want to have to put it down on the ground.
  22. Hey Michael, You need to empty your inbox as I can't send you a pm. Just reply on this thread to let me know and I'll resend it. Thanks Tim
  23. i keep a couple differnt species of comps and calvus and need to find more breeding sites. i was wondering if i could take all the egg out of the shell ad clean it and use it for various species of comps and calvus. would the chicken egg shell perlute the water or anything like that or disolve over time?
