  1. Finally, after all this time there was no rain for long enough for me to get my dream tank home and into my room. 8x3x2 made by Michael at Aquarium and Petland Southport, who I can't thank enough. Had about 9 people lined up to carry the thing, only 6 turned up but it was an easy and smooth lift (not that I can say anything I didn't carry it lol). Made it off the ute around the corner and onto the stand with no damage. Had to get into it, fishkeepers tradition. I didn't want to get out of it once i was in there! A new experience is all I can say. Enjoy the pics. Couldn't imagine a better view from my bed. (Pardon the socks I was as tired as hell by the time I got in there... who cares!)
  2. After trying for a fair while to get these to breed and having no luck with a pair that have failed 4 times now. Decided to put two random CV's from my 8ft display. 4 days later, what do you know they are holding!! Fast forward a few weeks and we have fry! Hard to get decent photos. From a phone and low light in the shed. Original pair have another mouthful but I don't hold high hopes. Most likely 5th failed attempt. Cheers Gary
  3. It’s been a week or two now that the male little species of anthia will come out and feed, but when I get close to the tank it would hide. It’s been two days now that it doesn’t show it hates me and hides to now swims about with all the others, very cool result.
  4. Hey kids! So I finally took the plunge and bought a 4ft/75gal/285l tank. After much deliberation I decided to get a Red Severum to put in it. I nearly went for a Texas but then I talked myself out of it Anywho, here's some pics. I've named him Darius. He's very cute lol, consider this your formal warning. He is a little bit bigger than a 50c piece. Please ignore the crazy looking tank as I am yet to buy substrate/appropriate decor. At the moment I am using the all-in-one filter that came with the tank and I planning to upgrade to a canister. I'm seriously considering a Fluval FX6. Thoughts? I am planning to use white sand (this stuff) which is a course/coral looking kind of sand (not actually coral though). The tank background is black and will probably stay that way. Thanks for letting me share. This is the kind of tank/fish tank always drew me to the hobby but I never had the space for one until now so I'm really really happy about it
  5. Got the tank filled today, getting more and more excited about setting it up, all I have to do is get some live rock to cycle it can't wait for it to clear up. What do you guys think? Oh also, anybody got some cheap live rock they drop off Haha.

  12. With all of my aquariums now up and running i can now set up my discus tank. At the moment i have 5 albino coreys, 15 white clouds, a chocolate pleco and a sailfin pleco. I will pick up the discus tomorrow night. Give me some tips on what i should get for my tank. I have a black background going up and some led lights.
  13. After lurking for quite a while I have decided to register. After a break of around 30 years from keeping fish I have started to get back into the hobby. Of course, having children who are somewhat older now does help. I used to keep native fish (crimson spot rainbows, ornate rainbows and blue eyes) and will eventually get back into it, but for now, I will be setting up tanks for my wife so that she can look at more colourful exotic fish. Although she doesn't mind the 2 empire gudgeon that have appeared in the tank. Still, more reading to do and probably a few questions will come along the way.
  14. Hey guys, I am finally back into cichlids from a 4 year stint since I have moved to Townsville from the sunnycoast, my old handle was brad2828 I believe. nearly have my new custom 5x2x2 setup complete. cost me a small fortune but its far from a pet shop style timber pine set up. what do you reckon. I have from what the builder tells me a pretty decent bio filtration sump with a 4200l/p hour pump. I got a lot of little extras put on like stainless hinges, soft touch opening doors, polished glass edges, quick release tap water change function . And hopefully if all goes to plan my 5 wild caught Moba frontosa to arrive this Thursday
  15. Been on the search for ages for some snakehead gudgeons. Annoyed one of the wholesalers for a while and ta da! Snakehead gudgeons! =) Beautiful big 20cm boy, could honestly be bigger. He's quite active but still a bit stressed, but so damned handsome. And Tadpole inspecting his new housemate Tadpole and Toad having a cuddle
  16. Bought on flea bay and finally refinished and tweaked it. Thanks to gpodge, rastinger and derpwit for the great deals. Before After While cycling With fish Grow babies grow!
  17. Hi guys, finally setting up the old eight foot tank and decided i want to go planted. Quit my old job at the Brookie produce and am now working for Pisces, so i have a few options of plants. First things first, what is the cheapest option for lighting a 70cm tank? this tank gets ambient light during the day as it is actually outside under a semi clear roofed awning. Doubtful that i will heat it as the tank itself is just too big, and being outside there is no insulation. To CO2 or not to CO2? really unsure about this one. previously i ran fx5's on this tank with a high American cichlid bio load, however not sure about fish, especially not being heated. Shrimp maybe? being outside i will need something in there to keep the mozzies down thoughts/ideas anyone?

I figure if i keep an eye on the graphs, watch for the spike then test when it goes to 0. Questions: 1. Should I cycle my lights while I am cycling? If i don't have plants do i need to do this? 2. Should I go to the LFS and just buy some cheap plants in pots to just sit in the tank? 3. Should i be aerating the water while cycling? The setup under the tank. Dirty as tank Non-swimming Prawns Decided on the 2 pieces of wood, probably not the best hardscape but yeah, i think it gives and interesting shape. The hollow log did darken a bit which was good to. Any ways sorry for the long post.
  19. Granted, I'd like it with less god damn beard algae! But I'm really happy with the stock list, just thought I'd share! Geo is just in there temporarily. Can't say I really bothered with the scape though haha! Finn
  20. Yay! I finally managed to get my registration to work!!! Got my first tank yesterday and doing a clean today. Where would you recommend I look to get a water heater/thermostat and pump? It's a 3ft tank but has odd dimensions. It's a bit higher but the back and front are a small amount closer together than what I've seen at the forbidden 'pet shops' haha. Anyway, hello all. I'm Fiona aka total newbie to the game! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

  22. I know I have posted a few lately but this just had to be shared. It took quite a lot of shots to get but I finally cracked it. I thought I was going to run out of the temporary subjects but nailed this shot with about five of little fellas still swimming. Being full framed and an uncropped image makes it all the more sweeter! (Disclaimer: Fish were harmed in the making of this image.)
  23. Went to do a water change on my 5 x 2 x 2ft this morning and found at least 6 baby electric yellows swimming around amongst the rocks is it safe to do a water change still and put the babies in my bristle nose tank with a sponge filter or should I leave things alone till they grow a bit more cheers Yellows
  24. Hey All, This has been a project for the last couple months, taking up any free time ive had to dedicate to it :-) Has been running for the last 1.5months... sorry for taking so long to share. I decided to sump 2x 2'x1'x15" tanks to my Oversized 4'x18"x18" sump.. I made up a 316 Stainless Steel Stand to sit over my 6'x2.5'x2' tank. Upgraded the pump from 3000L/Hr to 4500L/Hr (...the 3000L/Hr died and so had to upgrade...). Ill Basically let the pics tell the story.. I drilled and painted the 2' tanks... System runs Sweet.. Havent decided what to add to the 2nd 2'.... thinking Royal Whips..?? Wife Likes them. The Other 2' is my sons tank with Rummy Nose Tetras, White Clouds, Endlers, Cherry Shrimp, 1 (remaining from 7) CRS, 3 Albino BN and 2 Marble LFBN's.. Plus His Excuvator Ornament. My 6ft still has Bella (Pink GG @ 50cm), Albino Salfin Plec, Albino & Normal BN, Angels, BGK, Big Clown Loach, Small Paki Loach, L168, Mollies & Fancy Guppies... Think thats all.... Oh & my Sump has a heap of guppies & Mollies living in it.. (went down the drain pipes....) Will Update once i decide what to fill the 3rd tank with. Tim
