  1. Hey guys the main focus of this thread will be the planted tank but will include pics of the little fronts every now and then! The planted tank has been running for a month now and slowly kicking into gear. The scape is not 100% complete as I have some random plants in there just seeing how they go. Still sorting out the piping and going to install some glass inlets/outlets soon. Fronts tank: 4*2*2.5ft high. 9 Ikola 5-7cms 3 Random Peacocks 3 Clown loachs 1 Albino Pleco 1 Sailfin Pleco. fx5 filter 1ft t5 light (they like darkness) Planted tank: 3*1.5*1.5ft 2*canisters Ehiem 2213 running a 200w inline heater. Fluval 206 running a Sera in-line reactor. Pressurised Co2 system running at 3bpm. 4*39w t5 globes. (3*plant grow, 1*10000k) currently 5 hours a day. (Only just increased from 2 to 4 bulbs) Ferts: None atm Substrate is 2toned diy on the bottom and capped with sand and then ADA Amazonia 1 and a half bags. Fish list: Cherry Shrimp 2* royal whips 3* L134 To get fish: Pair of rams Pair of Red Breasted Acaras Maybe some smaller tetras if I only get one pair. The scape I am going for is a jungle of crypts at the back left (raised) then down the slope that the driftwood creates into a field of hc (that is slowly growing). Most of the stem plants will probably end up going or being moved. Then on the right side have a little "island" to break the hc carpet up with some more crypts, blyxa and a feature sword. The peg will be going shorty so don't worry haha. Let us know what you guys think and any times on the setup would be helpful Cheers Damo.
  2. Has anyone had success keeping jumbo leptosoma with fronts? I know in the wild they are frontosa food but i thought there would be a good chance of keeping them together in a tank with all fish well feed.
  3. So my 5x2x2 is currently stocked with 4 10-15cm frontosa and an 8cm livingstonii. Planning on buying a large frontosa male down the track to give the group a dominant male but apart from that I'm not sure what else to put in with them. I wouldn't mind another species of small tangs but I want to breed the frontosa down the track. Would keeping other fish interfere with breeding? I have some species in mind like black calvus or leleupi but I'm not really sure yet. Any suggestions on what looks good with fronts? Numbers etc? Thanks guys
  4. Hi Guys I was at the City farmer Mitchelton and they had a special on fronts 3 for $100 the thing is they were largish fish about 8 or 10cm cheapest i have seen them and in good nick .. a Good luck shopping
  5. so a bit of a vent and some questions. ok so i decided to get some Anubias for my tank and after a while it started to look a little shabby so i did my research and though some flourish would do it some good i gave a little less dosage then recommended and took the time to slowly add it over 1 day , wwell it did but not so much for the fish. woke up to find 2 f1 mpwimbwe a gold comp and my gold spot DEAD (not happy to say the least) so a decent water change helped but all the other fish were still breathing heavy? woke up today to find another 3 fronts and 2 black calvus DEAD (now im really pi#@#D off) so hopefully my last three fronts and peppermint are alive when i get home. where did i go wrong ??? anyone know where i can get some f1 mpwimbwe? cheers
  6. If someone could post a link to a website or type in a quick explanation about the different types of frontosas eg. kigoma, moba, as i am interested in keeping these, are one type less aggressive etc. Cheers!
  7. I currently have a four footer with electic yellows, electric blue, crimson tide, assorted peacocks, yellow tail acei, maingano, two plecos and two common b/n. A friend of mine has an 8 footer i am hoping to acquire, i was hoping to mix these africans with some fronts in the new tank. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.
  8. so this tank has been about 5 months in the making, its the only tank i can have atm so i wanted it to be perfect. im pretty happy with how it is now i got the mpwibwe around 2 weeks ago and they have settled in really well, very lively and eating like pigs . they mpwibwe are around the 3-4 cm mark, they are growing pretty fast thanks to the member that helped me get them, thanks mate. im glad i waited haha. i had the comps and calvus in for around 2 months they are pretty placid so they didn't mind meeting the new tank mates when they arrived. im not that good with the camera but you get the idea, i used a panasonic Lumix. so let me know what you think
