  3. Hi everyone...okay so I have an oscar that wont grow and I noticed today that I also have a severum (Torrey) with a funny looking face...I did not notice this when I bought her...mind you she was really small and so it would have been difficult to spot...and I had not had a severum before ...anyway... I was looking at my severum and I noticed that one side of her face (the right) sticks out further than her left side. The bottom section of her gills on the right flare out farther too..her mouth looks straight..although it's so little its kind of hard to say for certain..is this some kind of deformity??..She also has more spangles on one side of her face and barely none on the other..she is growing, healthy and eating..I never had any intention of breeding her,so if it is a genetic thing, that's not a worry..but does anyone know any more about this kind of thing??..I have done a google search but have not been able to really find anything....have to admit though I am kind of a bit bummed out that she's not the best looker..when you start to design a tank and have a picture in your head of what the finished product will look like; hearing visitors to my house say "what's wrong with her face?" is not what I had in mind.....but I love her, and she's gonna have the best life I can give her anyway...

  8. Hey I have a wild oscar that I aquired about 5-6months ago he was very shy at first until he learnt were the food came from. He was very curious when he was young but grew more snappy as he got older but he grew up with humpheads and tinanti. He is only in a 4x18x18 at the moment but he is being a such a sook in the tank if I put him in the bigger tanks he picks on the bigger fish and eats all the food till it cant fit and he just swims into it trying to eat more. I put a redhump male in there with him and they just sit at opposite ends of the tank. I was going to add in 8 silver dollars I have next to see if that helps. Has any one else had oscars that are big sooks or know a good mate for him? Any tips or funny fish stories would be great to hear.

  11. Kinda like the confessions thread but just funny stuff here: I used to have my six foot as a community with rummynoses, Angels, bn and snails. I had all the lids at one stage but after a while managed to step on one lid and never (still havnt) Got around to replacing it. Anyway i remember waking up one morning and going to the bath room to wash my face, as i entered the bathroom i felt something hard under the towl i had left on the floor from the previous night (as you do ) I ignored it at first, washed my face and then stepped on it AGAIN rather hard. So i though to myself, still half asleep Wtf could be under this towl. Lifted it up and found a Apple snail!! It took me 30 seconds to realise what it was and another 30 to realise how far the thing had to crawl to get where it was!! No joke this snail had crawled half the house to get to this bathroom!! I put him back in the tank, but it def made me giggle 6am in the morning Anyone else have "funny" Stories to share? Ill add more as i go. Even today i check the house for Apple snails Haha!! Esp the bathroom floors! :p

  20. You can see in the pic below how it looks like my ebjds tail has two chunks taken out of it. Has anyone ever seen this? I know that high nitrates can cause this, but my water quality's great. It's been like this for the last few months. Doesn't seem to be getting worse or better, but possible slowly growing out...? Let me know what you reckon
