  1. So a week ago today I picked up 8 7-8cm discus from Darren Thomson aka Gold Coast Discus. First couple of days where fine apart from the normal settling in period. Then late on day two I noticed white spot on quiet a few of the fish. The following day I started Protozin treatment and seems to have cleared up nicely. (3rd day of treatment yesterday) However on day 3 I noticed that the Penang eruptions gill plate was raised on one side and the membrane is sticking out around 3-5mm when it takes a breath. Also there are some barely visible white lines/spots on the membrane when you look inside (please see photo) He is still breathing from both gills, colour is nice, behaviour is normal and eating fine. Then today I noticed that my blue diamonds eyes have gone cloudy (pop eye???) he is not eating and is very reserved. Are these problems possibly related and what can I do? I have spoken to quiet a few people and done hours of research with no firm diagnosis on what's happening to my tank. Apart from the Protozin treatment for white spot I have been doing 50% wc daily and added 1tbs of salt per 60l. Sorry for for the long story :/ Any help or advice would be very much appreciated... I have no idea what to do! Ph: 7.5 Am: 0 Rite: 0 Rate 0-5 30 deg Bare bottom 4x2x2 with a 3 foot sump, no plants, no other fish. Setup in run completely on pre filtered rain water.
  2. Hello. last week I purchased a 7 cm jack and I have noticed a fair amount of flashing/scratching on gravel/ jaw flicking type behaviour in the past few days. He also tends to spend alot of time in one of the bubbles just sitting in them. Apart from this he is eating fine. Very active no stress colours or noticed discolouration. This was a second hand tank that I removed the other fish from after buying it and re did the whole substrate and ornaments but I did keep the filter cycled so that I didn't have to start from scratch. This has been happening now for last few days. I would consider my self a very well read beginner but a beginner nontheless...I am keen to get on top of this as I would hate to risk such an awesome (and expensive ) fish. Parameters as follows Ph: 7.5-7.6 api Ammonia:0 api Nitrite:- 0 (API drops Nitrate:- 10-20 ppm (API drops)/> Gh:- unknown Size of tank:- 6x2x2 Temperature °C:- currently at 28 max Been running for: 1 month Filtration:-Canister/Sump/Internal Filter/Sponge:- aqua one 2400 aquis Heavily aerated Feeding:- What food and How often: peeled prawns pieces twice daily No live food at this stage Recent Medication Treatments: none Last water change:- 3 days. Added around 5ppm salt dose in two stages both times he went crazy active swimming around like a mad fish... i am getting to the stage where I think treatment is necessary...the fish is not flashing constantly but it would be at least a few times an hour. Any advice or expertise would be greatly welcomed...

  5. just wondering if any of u guys have treated gill flukes and what u used thx
  6. Hey guys, I've had an issue with gill flukes in one of my tanks and after numerous goes at eliminating it, i've had no luck. Well by no luck i mean the fish get better for a few weeks and then bang they are doing the same stuff again, clamping fins, flashing against the bottom. I want to know whats the best course of action here, Do i move all the fish into a new q tank and treat them in there and while they are in quarantine strip the tank down and start again fresh, or is the something I can treat the tank with that will kill the parasite and its eggs and treat the fish at thte same time. BTW - i have been treating the whole tank with sterzyn, it seems to kill the parasite but not the eggs
  7. Just noticed today my 20cm Oscar breathing through one gill. Iv googled this to no avail. otherwise behaviour is pretty normal beside a little picky eating. Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10-15 ph 7.5 Now i know this guy can sulk like the best of them, so im wondering if its just some kind of non-medical behaviour & will go in time. Anyone seen this before?
  8. ok bought a few ebjd and turns out they have short gill plates ..wat i was wondering is wat is it from poor water quility..just plan deformed..ect ect ..an i able to fix it
  9. My Alpha WC Kipili has developed a white growth coming out of one of his gills. He is acting perfectly normal and the water conditions are perfect. Anyone know what it might be? Or even better.. how to cure it? I have attached some pictures. 3rd one just to show you how sad he is.
  10. I just spoke to the LFS and they did not check for phosphate. They are advicing that because I stressed the pepps in a bad environmental previously, active diseases that invaded the pepps spread to my other fish as well (brichardi), which caused their demise. All of which sounds very plausible. I'm now worried that my Calvus are also playing host to this demon parasite and may move to fishy heaven soon... I have attached some pictures below of the survivors and am hoping if anyone can help me identify Gill fluke, which apparently is a common disease for tangs. Their respiratory behaviour seems to be slightly abnormal since they look like they are trying harder to breath. I have also noticed some twitches while they remain in suspension. Symptom observation could be just me being paranoid since there used to be black gravel and driftwood in the tank previous to my panic and they were alot darker in complexion. I have added another 1.5 table spoons of pool salt to the existing 1 teaspoon added yesterday. The tank is approximately 130L and the heat has been turned up to 28. this is a picture of what they used to look like...
