  1. So a week ago today I picked up 8 7-8cm discus from Darren Thomson aka Gold Coast Discus. First couple of days where fine apart from the normal settling in period. Then late on day two I noticed white spot on quiet a few of the fish. The following day I started Protozin treatment and seems to have cleared up nicely. (3rd day of treatment yesterday) However on day 3 I noticed that the Penang eruptions gill plate was raised on one side and the membrane is sticking out around 3-5mm when it takes a breath. Also there are some barely visible white lines/spots on the membrane when you look inside (please see photo) He is still breathing from both gills, colour is nice, behaviour is normal and eating fine. Then today I noticed that my blue diamonds eyes have gone cloudy (pop eye???) he is not eating and is very reserved. Are these problems possibly related and what can I do? I have spoken to quiet a few people and done hours of research with no firm diagnosis on what's happening to my tank. Apart from the Protozin treatment for white spot I have been doing 50% wc daily and added 1tbs of salt per 60l. Sorry for for the long story :/ Any help or advice would be very much appreciated... I have no idea what to do! Ph: 7.5 Am: 0 Rite: 0 Rate 0-5 30 deg Bare bottom 4x2x2 with a 3 foot sump, no plants, no other fish. Setup in run completely on pre filtered rain water.
  2. Hey guys, After a bit of expertise here! I bought 2 small Green terrors from Livefish. One of them has been going great and holds his own well, the other one has been sulking about and not eating well. I have noticed he has red patches on his gill plates which from my research seems to indicate a bacterial infection. Couple of pics below. I have just moved him into another tank where he wont get picked on, but should I put him in a hospital tank and dose him with something? What products are good for this kind of thing? Is it just maybe stress or is something wrong? Any help greatly appreciated!
  3. Hey guys, I have noticed my fish lately have been rubbing there gills on gravel substrate more than usual. Is that a bad thing or are they fine?
  4. Hi, I had a guppy giving birth on Monday (bluegrass) and caught it to put into a birthing tank. Problem is, whilst catching it, it got caught between the wire side of the net and the glass and I accidentally squished it a little. It lost movement of its dorsal on its left side. I put it into the birthing container and it gave birth. Given its injuries, I left it in that tank until today and put it back into the top tank. After closer inspection, it appears as though the gills on the injured side are inflamed and red/purple, and the fin on that side has rotted away. It is interested in food although spits most out again. Is this an injury healing thing, or a its going to die thing? Thanks
  5. Hi I was givin a 42cm sailfin last night and as I was getting it out of the tank it released a big spurt of blood out of its gills, I have never seen this before. Can anyone give me any indication as to why? Ammonia poisoning?? The guy I got it off said he never noes much in his tank but as soon as I got it home and released into my tank he looked happy as and was cruising around for ages. Is this anything to worry about and if I was to put into a tank with other fish will it cause them to bleed catch whatever this is? Thank you in advance for your help will be much appreciated
  6. Yellow discus belonging to my mate hasn't been eating much lately and has a weird blind pimple looking thing forming in front of its tail on one side (barely visible in pic). Lately its main dorsal fin has been diminishing slowly in shape and size (no signs of rot) and his gills surrounds look a bit reddish (slightly more obvious in pic). Water tests indicate no ammonia and very low nitrate, Ph is just under 7 and the temp is around 28. Water is slightly harder than ideal, but so is all Brisbane tap water. Sorry the pic ain't great, but has anyone got any ideas as to whats wrong with him/her?
