  1. Hey guys I'm new to the planted tank and haven't had the best track record with plants in my tanks. I've started a new planted tank and are having some issues with my Java Moss. So has anyone else ever encountered that white/grey furry stuff on there Java moss? And as you can see there is some die back so I'm trying to work out if this stuff is causing it. Any help or ideas would be great. Cheers Jack

I am just after some info on java fern, one of my plants ( the largeappreciateaf variety)is absolutly covered in young plants, their leaves are about 3-4 cms long I was wondering at about what size they should be before transplanting and what is the best way to plant (in pots , gravel, sand or on wood or rocks). Any input would be appreciated as I have never had java fern before.

  7. Hey guys and gals, I've got some java ferns and anubias in my tank for a bit of green and have a few questions on splitting the plants so I can spread it out more. 1. Some of the JF have new plants stemming off from the leaves how would I remove them safely so that the new plant can grow? 2. How would I go about breaking off parts of both to make a new plant (splitting on plant into two separate plants)? 3. Best way to plant them Cheers, Adam
  8. Has anyone had their java moss start going brown? There's not heap of water flow but 10hr per day of a plant specific light (up aqua pro z) It was clumped quite thickly but at lfs they have it thick and it's all healthy, i've thinned it out now so light can reach it all

  14. I have just taken some Java Moss from a bit of DW and attached it to another couple of bits of DW and I noticed today it's all going brown around the edges and like it's dying. It was taken from the same tank it was put into, the only difference is the wood is different but I bought it from a fellow member who had it in Cichlid tanks/breeding set up, so it's been water logged etc and I scrubbed/boiled it really well before putting it in the tank. Could it be the wood that is doing this or have I done something wrong? I have done this plenty of times before but this has never happened and I'm annoyed because the Java Moss was growing really well on the bit of wood I had it on. Also while I'm here, could I ask what is the ideal temp that you guys have found Java Moss grows in? Current temp is 26c to 28c but mainly sits on 27c. Any help would be appreciated, thanks heaps:)
  15. I put some Java Moss onto some DW ages ago, I used fishing line as this is what I was told to do. So I wrapped the fishing line around and around and have just left the moss to grow. So today, I had to do a huge clean out of my tank and I checked out this bit of DW with the moss on it to see how well it had attached by now (it's been about a year since putting it on the DW). I discovered that, yes it's grown really well but it hasn't attached at all, if it wasn't for the fishing line still being thee, it would all just float off the DW. I have never had much to do with Java Moss, so I have no clue if this is how it's meant to be or if it is meant to attach itself as it grows. Could someone give me the heads up on this please? And also, I'm wanting to trim it and try attach some more to another bit of DW, is there a trick to getting it to attach properly? While I'm here, could I also ask about attaching Anubias Nana (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called, I'm still trying to get used to plant names). I have some beautiful pieces that I have been growing in some posts and I now want to put these onto some DW too but not sure what's the best way. What about Java Fern, is this a plant that grows well on DW or is it better just straight into substrate? What ways have you guys found best to do all this stuff? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks:)

  21. I am looking for some Java Moss, and all the LFS within a 100kms radius from where I live do not have it and they do not have Java Fern either, and some of them looked at me a bit blank when asking about it, as if they had no idea. Is it an expensive plant ?. I am on very limited funds so cannot afford a great deal. I was looking on eBay and found a company from Taiwan selling it very cheaply US$0.99 with free postage, but I want to know, can it be imported into Australia as I thought we had strict Quarantine rules regarding plants etc, and do not even want to waste US $0.99 if customs will take it. Can it be propagated at all ??? or can I get seeds for them?? I want to put some in our main tank, so when the only 2 surviving female guppies have their fry, they will have somewhere to hide. As I will not put fish into our other tank until it is cycled. I will be setting up some fry hatching tanks eventually which will not have any substrate in it at all, just so that the females can have their babies then go back into the main tank, but until then I want to be able to get some Java Moss and Java Fern as that is what I have been told that it gives the babies some place to hide in case they are born in the main tank. I will not be able to purchase any until next Thursday 25th as that is our pension day and I have to budget things, as this will be a luxury item, as I already have on hold some glass thermometers to be paid then. Thanks for any help. Jane
