1. I got another canister filter of Brad to place in my discus tank.Thought 2 canisters be great in a heavily stocked 4x2x2,{can't have sump} no need for internal. Tank be better etc etc etc.... I went to take out the internal filter when the bottom 2 cartridges fell off. Now the bottom cartridge is fill with ceramic noodles, therefore a bit of weight. It landed straight on a discus head, knocking it out cold. Couldn't think of a way to make it come too. Did try a couple of things, drew the line at mouth to mouth but. Therefore I suppose the best thing to describe it is, that it drowned. Useless idiot, ramble ramble ramble.... Frenchy
2. Afternoon guys. I am seeking some advice, I want to restart my 2 largest tanks utilising the sump that was used including the 2 tanks on a rack system. which as we all no went south super quick! White Spot (ich) & then ammonia spike finished everybody off. The 2 largest tanks 6x2x2 & 6x2x700 are the only tanks left with the 4x2x18 sump, still sitting as they were when I drained them including sand in the tanks & I also had bulk little black snails that lived in my sump & drove me nuts! Basically I want to fill the tanks & sump, plug the pump in & if possible BOMB THE **** outa it with whatever. I want every last bit of bacteria, be it good or bad DEAD, also I want the snails DEAD. Then once all this has run it course, I want to clean out the sump, IN TAP WATER :0 OMG! Then start the cycle fresh & new. Any advice would be appreciated, I just want to make sure I get everything including what lives in the sand substrate. Thanks you guys & girls.
3. any advice or tips, I'm trying formaldehyde and no light for a day or two. Appreciate it shared experience, it's got to be one of the biggest mistakes of the newbie planted aquarium.
4. I know it works for treating live stock, but could the same process be successful on say a piece of timber from a creek? Like if you were to soak it for a day or two in salt you reckon it would kill all the freshwater parasites bugs snails etc to a point that it would basically be a sterile bit of wood so to speak.... Thoughts?
5.

Hi all, I've had a fairly severe outbreak of cladophora in a fully planted 3ft. What is the best method to eradicate it? The tank has a few types of stem plants, some crypts, hm that's struggling and some brasiliensis lilaeopsis if that helps. It is past the method of spot dosing and everytime i try to manually remove it i take handfuls of rocks and plants with it. Any help appreciated. Cheers mick
6. hey all. i have a bit of a problem with ramshorn snails getting a little out of control in one of my shrimp breeding tanks. i grabbed some "no planaria" form AOA to help out with killing a snail problem (smaller different breed of snail) in my other tanks which worked a treat but this stuff has little to no effect on the ramshorn snails. i just spent 15 minutes grabbing them out by hand but that game got old pretty quick. understandably if i cut back my food my snail population will reduce a bit but they are pretty quick at getting hold of the food before the shrimp get to have a good go at it. If anyone has any ideas on a shrimp safe snail solution that they could share i would greatly appreciate it. cheers Brenton

11. Hello everyone! Last week I was here asking you good peoples about my JD's constipation/swim bladder issue... Well, thanks to the great info, he is fixed and VERY healthy again... I put it down to constipation from an unbalanced diet... The breeding pair (female is definatly a split, male standard) have been together for about 2.5 years, they are very regular breeders, they have always been close and get along well with eachother... They spawned last week, the following day I put in a new half plant pot cave into the corner of the tank as I could see how much trouble my 8 inch male has getting to the nest in the tiny cave that his 5.5 inch female laid the eggs in... The female started to neglect her eggs a bit... She wanted to move into the new home so she was not attending to her eggs as often as she should have.. Most of them turned white and she didnt really pick them out either (she was really slack this time) yesterday was D day... No eggs left, no fry swimming around.. First total failure of spawning.. Now Mr JD seems to be wanting to kill her! Chasing her around the tank... Water splashing everywhere..! Is he trying to kill her? Is this normal? Have you ever experienced this? could it be that he has felt SO crappy for so long due to his bad diet that he just has so much energy now? Jack Dempseys above all fish have the greatest personality and intelligence... It blows me away..!
12. How do I kill leeches and not hurt goldfish. I got some plants recently and they had some hitchhickers:( Cheers
13. you can make apple cider AND give your tank CO2 too!
14. Thought its time for another thread on your favourite way to kill these critters. Because as great as they are.... sometimes you need a break from them! Anyway heres the latest method I tried. "add sugar (1 tsp per 25 Litres (6.6 US G.) and wait two days) and they will rise to the surface. Obviously do not do this when you have other animals in the tank! May affect the nitrifying bacteria in the filter." ok so it turns the water water to look like milk but it does make the snails come to the surface. I moved the filter and air to another tank...... so probably some babies in the filter still. anyway it causes an epic water column bacteria bloom that sucks all the oxygen out of the water and causes the snails to come to the surface or die. worked rather well I think lol 100% water change later after scraping them all off with a net and I think I got them. but ya you need another tank for all the fish so have to catch all the fish = effort have to pick out all the snails when they come to surface (easy to drop them) = effort 100% water change = effort but it works......... and its cheap.
15. i have a 5foot tank set up with various size bn in it. It has a slight snail problem also. Lately my albino's have all been dying. They were about 4 to 5cm each and This morning i found most of my commons about the same size all floating at the top. Wat would be causing this. Small bn don't seem to be dying just the bigger ones.
16. Heard today a interesting bit of info from a guy. wanted to find out if its true? He said that if your sump has light on it that the bacteria growing in there will mutate and not work or die or something . Intrested because my sumps have light on them ! Yes my sumps are working but will they do beter in the dark? Thanks for reading and info!

19. For the past three weeks, I've been trying to fishlessly cycle a marine tank (well, actually its been much longer than that - but three weeks ago I pinched some bioballs from a mate's marine filter - and finally starting to see some nitrite formation, and the beginnings of a cycle), and all was going well until early this week: basically, the ammonia was clearing from about 5ppm to 0 overnight, and I was just waiting for the nitrite to do the same (it was starting to drop to about 0.25ppm). Just when I thought it was all going to happen, I did two thing, one or both of which I think may have either killed, or at least suspended the cycling: 1) Because I had the tank at 30oC to speed up they cycle, I was having a lot of evaporation, so I topped up the tank with freshwater ie. I dropped the salinity from very saline: say 36ppt, to maybe about 33-34ppt in a matter of minutes. 2) I was reaching the tail end of my bottle of highly saturated ammonium chloride solution where there were lots of ammonium chloride crystals- so, while I added the right volume of what should have given me 5ppm, there's a chance that I OD'd on this. So, assuming one or both of these have done some harm to the biofilter (the ammonia has only maybe dropped from >8ppm to perhaps between 4-8ppm since Monday: but at those high levels, its pretty hard to be accurate on the colorimetric chart as to the exact concentration), have I killed it off completely, or will it slowly recover?
20. i have a smaller tank mainly for some of my trio of pepps and 1 larger male BN. he is faning some eggs which i would assume come from a female pepp as the are no female BN in the tank. has anyone ever heard of this happening before? i was told there is no way it would which is why i put my extra male in there until i got a few girls for him but now this has happened. just so we are clear, i have no intensions of keeping any of the fry as they will be turned into feeders for my africans.
21. Over the last few weeks my Bn count has gone down very quickly... I had 2male albino with 3 females in one tank then I had 1 male common with 2female in another tank My snail have been breeding like their is no tomorrow in these tanks when i was left with 3 albino females and 2 common females I put them all in the same tank but i now have lost another female albino  I do regular water changes with tank water feed them with sinking pallets and zicinnie and every now and then bloodworm the hp is all good and the temp in at 27 so i can only think that the snails are eating them the only other thing in the tanks are guppies bout 10 of them.... please help me
22. I am going to move my fish into a bigger temporary tank untill I get my 6ft sumped and running. My 3ft tank is snail ridden basically and is just getting worse, so how can I be certain they are gone if I re use the tank? I was thinking dumping the gravel, bleaching the tank, throwing all the filter sponge and crap, boiling bio balls and matrix, throwing away the plants, boiling driftwood and rocks. Am I missing anything, I want these frigging things gone they are multiplying worse the bn.
