  1. Hey went to Mappins today, they have real Flying Fox for sale at $6, Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus not the Siamese Algae eater ring-ins . I bought a half dozen but still plenty left. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_fox_(fish)
  2. So I dropped into mappins the other day for a look and was quite surprised with the amount of awesome stock they had, every tank was stocked with some really nice fish. They had a heap of nice looking mangrove jacks, heaps of coal grunters, Harvey creek blue eyes, and other types of blue eyes, a massive school of salmon tail cats which was quite fun to watch, nice rainbows and the list goes on, honestly I've never seen it looking so good. By the way I don't work for or have any affiliation with them, they just had some nice fish in stock
  3. We are finally doing a water feature for the front garden So I popped quickly into Mappins to take a look. Lots of nice stuff, the stand outs to me were the Peacock Gudgeons (nice hurry while they last) and Croaking Gouramis. Darryl's water features are amazing and he is full of good advice. Funny shop, its the only self service LFS that I know of. Also curious to see pictures of people's water features, not so much your growing out ponds, ibc, daphnias pools, etc, but your deliberate Water features to enhance your garden. We are going Balinese with a square preformed tub semisunk into the ground, but 500mm raised out of the earth to avoid toads (as per Darryl's advice) with an Asian urn in the middle raised up on breeze blocks, with a pump in the bottom to effect overflow and sleepers around the edges The pool will have duck weed and Lillies and will either stock it with Pacific blue eyes, Rhads or Honey's not sure yet. Can't wait to get started.
  4. Hey guys I just came back from Mappins aquarium in Montague rd West End in Brisbane. They have got some awesome quality and rare Rainbows at the moment. I picked up 2 stunning male Orange form parkinsoni for $10 each to go with the school of females that I have already. They had some gorgeous Upper katherine river rainbows, Glossolepis multisquamata for $19 they are usually twice that in most shops !!! Melanotaenia papuae,Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi, Melanotaenia rubrostriata, Melanotaenia splendida tatei, heaps of different Splendida splendida populations, and the same with the Dubolayi. Also some nice other natives, Barra, Saratoga, and catfish. Well worth the visit. Phil
