  1. Hi all, so surprise surprise my convicts had fry. the dad has been a good dad watching out for them but in doing so he has pushed harshly past their cave many time which has scratched him on the side. i think he has also scratched his eye as i can see a scratch above his right eye... but today both eye at the front look cloudy.. checked water ph 7.4 ammonia 0 ppm nitrite 0 ppm nitrate 10 ppm so a quick 25%water change... but i want to make sure no infection comes. i have melafix.. and from what i know it is just a very basic anti bacterial.. i have no other tank to put him in at the moment so can i treat with melafix while fry are in the tank ??? pics below for reference ....thanks
  2. Curious if people find these two useful meds or not? I don't need to treat or anything. Also if anyone has used them with labyrinth fish and if caused any issues like convulsions/rapid death? These two regularly come up in discussion around meds here.
  3. Hi. I have a pond with, among other things, a pair of roughly 3 year old oscars. Every now and then, some of the other pond mates develop a little fuzz for which I've found PondCare Melafix can be quite helpful. The concentration of this is 45.8 g/L Cajeput Oil dosed at 5-10ml per 200L. I can't remember the exact amount but I think normal tank Melafix is around 12%. Even dosing at 5ml per 200L, within seconds of adding to the water, both oscars go beserk, quite literally doing backflips, sommersults and all manner of bizare behaviour. This generally settles in 30 seconds to a minute and their back to their usual mostly coy behaviour. I'm wondering what is going on with these guys? Is it an adverse reaction or just like the concentration is a little overwealming until mixed through? I have never seen them act so intensely to other additives, including salt, peroxide and so on. The PondCare Melafix recommends treatment for 7 days but given their strong reaction I'm relucant to use it more than every 2nd or 3rd day. Has anyone come across anything similar with oscars? Thanks.
  4. Fish has a cloudy eye, been told its a burn from ammonia poisioning he had. Was told by one fish shop to use melafix an another said pimafix? Advice
  5. Hey guys, I need some help... In posted this a few days ago common b/n with red/infected sucker, b/n with a badly cut/infected sucker. I added salt yesterday (1g per litre), then some melafix just then (5m to 40L)... and immediately the b/n thrashed around in the tank. then rolled over and layed on its back as if dead. I took him out straight away into some fresh water. what do you think?? I did some research and it looked like melafix should have been ok with scaleless species... but my observations tell me otherwise.
