  1. I had to move my shrimp Tank Into garage I drained most the water out and left a couple of inches in there with the shrimp. I moved them in and re filled with the same water and added some new water to it. Instantly I had 1 death and lots of loss of colour, I tested the water last night and I had 6.6ph, 0.25 ammonia this might be the problem, and 0 nitrites. Today I had another death. Any ideas on how to stop this? I think the ammonia might be from the Ada soil that got shaken up
  2. Today i went to pick up a 6ft tank with 3 blokes helping with the move... I thought i was getting a 6x2 but turns out it was a 6x2.5 and thus the glass thickness was way thicker than i expected. the three of us were struggling under the weight of the tank and as we were about to lift it up in to the ute we dropped it. Id assume it weighed around 300kg... The tank scraped down my brothers leg giving him a 22cm laceration basically from his knee to his ankle that was deep enough you could see his bone. Thankfully I have my first aid training (which if you dont have you should get now because you never know when you will be in a situation like this). He was rushed off to hospital and had surgery today, should only be there over night... it could have been much worse. Point of the story do not try to lift tanks without the correct amount of people... not only will it save ya tank but it could potentially do permanent damage if you don't, thankfully it didn't land on anyones feet... cheers, tristan
  3. Hello all I am going to be moving back to fresh from a reef tank shortly and would like some advice on what fresh water fish to go into a planted 6x2x2. My last fresh setup was mainly africans cichlids. and I have a small planted nano that I will decommission shortly that has just one otocinclus and I love the work it does to maintain your tank. So basically I havent really had anything to do with fresh inn over 10 years so I am a little out of wack and would love some input on a fish list please TIA Florix
  4. Hey all, my move was unsuccessful as my mates i had lined up have stitched me and are not going to help, looking for a few people with the tools needed to help me get a 6x2x3 from brendale to brighton (roughly 15min drive), the access to both houses are easy just one step at each end, i am going to have the tank dry and ready to move so will only take an hour roughly for the whole move, is any one here able to help me or suggest a cheap reliable company that can help me, im willing to pay i had a budget of 150 for my mates so a price around there would be good, also more than happy to put on a bbq at the final destination for all to enjoy! thanks Dan.
  5. Hi everyone. I am moving house in about 3 weeks. I have some tanks to move and a lot of fish. About 30 small to mid sized Americans. Does anyone have great suggestions on moving or maybe places that would look after my fish for a week or 2 while my tanks are re cycling. Any my suggestions are welcome.

  7. Hey everybody just wanting some advice and hints on this move, i have a black shark that is roughly 20+ inches, i am moving house from Brendale to Brighton about 20 mins travel, i moved her 6 months ago but i had a fresh tank already set up for her to go right into so all i did is put her in a 100L tub and trailer-ed her there as it was 2 mins travel down the road, but this time i am keeping her in the same tank which is a 6x2x3 and its a lot longer of a trip and am unsure of the right way to go about the whole move, the options i have thought of for transporting the fish are: 1, getting a giant fish bag to put her in and place that in the 100L tub with some padding but not sure how long she will survive in a fish bag? 2, possibly using silicone to attach kids floaties to the inside of the 100L tub to limit the amount of bruising she gets from trying to jump? that way i can use a portable air pump for travel? the other issue is moving the tank, it is a 1000L tank so it has a hell of a lot of bracing and very thick glass so it weighs far too much was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to make the move easier? we had four people last time one on every corner but 2 of them were lacking arm strength and it almost didnt make it inside the house, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks dan.
  8. Hey everyone, Hoping someone on here can help me with this. I'm looking at moving my tank closer to a powerpoint so I don't have to rely on an extension lead running to the tank. What would be the best way of moving it the tank is a 4x2x2 only problem is I don't have enough buckets/containers to hold all the water. What would be a safe water level to move the tank or would it be easier to do a very large water change (I can only hold approx 150-200L with my buckets etc.) Thanks, Adam
  9. Hey guys I have a planted tank setup, and a couple of shrimp breeding tanks. I want to move shrimp from the breeding tank to the display tank, but I don't want to take any of the substrate from one to the other! How would I do this? I can't just use a net. Is there a trap or something? I've searched online but only found things for catching shrimp out in the wild. cheers
  10. Hey guys, hope everyone had a good Xmas and New Years! Just a few questions.. What is the best way to keep the bacteria alive in my canister filters and the best way to remove sand from the tank so I can transport it to the other house? Anything other tips or tricks would be much appreciated thanks.

  12. I'm Craig, I live in Gympie in SEQ. I have an extra large tank, 5 meters by 2 meters deep and a meter thick. Today I drained it of water and am giving the fish away. I plan the clean out the gravel and keep some rocks and logs. I want to put a few Mangrove Jacks in it, and make it 50% saltwater. What advice can you give me ?
  13. Hey all just wondering after moving my 3ft tank to new location can it be left empty till I decide what fish to stock, or am I better filling it back up and just leave a pleco or something in it. Mainly will silicone go bad if I leave empty might be month or 2. Also unsure if I should try for discus, tropheus duboisi or similar, calvus/gold comps?
  14. After many years fo keeping American Cichlids I'm planning on doing an African Dispaly Tank. What are the pitfalls I should be looking out for and what types of Africans are most suitable together. I'm looking for colour and ease of care.
  15. Hi everyone just wanting to know if anyone could help me move a 8x2x3? It will probably be on Sat 5th July. Just need to move it from my living room to the shed out the back. Location is Heritage Park near Browns Plains. I'll put on beers & a feed. Please do not respond unless you can definitely make it as I don't want to organize it and have no one show up. My mates are reluctant to help because they are not into fish and because, well they are lazy. Cheers. Ben.

  17. Hello, my tropical fish and I have bought a new house and will shortly be moving from lovely Windaroo to Flagstone Rise in Jimboomba, the family's coming too! My question is, what is the safest way to transport and temporarily 'store' my fish (2 to 3 hours tops) to cause them the minimum amount of stress until I get their tanks refilled and settled. And, is clean rainwater suitable for tank use as I have only ever used town water. Cheers Pat.
  18. Hey guys, so a friend of mine has an 8x2x2 he dosnt have room for and has asked if i can pick it up tomorrow i can have it otherwise hes gotta break it down (the missus law) so with the very little time i have i was wondering if anyone had previous experience shifting a bad boy like this ? are there any precautions i need to take ? so far the plan is race around to every nearby kennards and coates til i find at least 3 sets of suction cups (6 cups total) and 6 pretty strong blokes with a ute as transport... will this work or am i looking at failure ? i also own a trailer but it falls just short of 7ft however i think my mates ute has an extra long tray which should accommodate the 8ft. any advice is greatly appreciated thanks in advance Pondy. adventure time graff ftw !
  19. Hey guys a am wanting to sell my turtle as he is not being looked after very well and he deserves a better home. My question is when you sell a reptile do you have to transfer the details onto the buyers licence. We bought the little fella at the start of the year in South Australia which you do not require a licence for and we drove back to queensland with him. We have had a reptile licence for over a couple of years and just renewed it. when we bought the turtle in SA it came with no information i dont even know what type of turtle it is (looks like a murray turlte however). all i want to know is do i need to put it on our licence to be able to give the buyer the details of the turtle?
  20. Hi all, I need to relocate some of my hybrids to a cooperating breeder in Perth, not a lot, only 10 or so and the biggest about 20cms - any clues on who can transport them for me?
  21. Hey everyone, im looking at getting a 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 with 12mm glass plus the cabinet. Whats the best way to move something so heavy without damaging it. It need to travel from Deception Bay to Wakerley (about 40km). Is a trailer safe enough or would it need to go in a van. Im also guessing that 2 people would not be enough to lift such a tank. Is there a cheap removalist option for tanks? if that exists Cheers

  25. Hey all. Joined the forum recently when pressured by my 7 year old to upgrade the 2 footer. To cut a long story short, it looks like I'll be acquiring lawsocietiy's nice 6 footer from the dry goods section (http://www.qldaf.com/forums/dry-goods-trader-13/getting-out-fish-6x2x2-everything-88946/). I've never had to move a tank bigger than 4x15x18, which I can do with the wife at the other end, so I'm not 100% what I'm getting myself into. I'll be moving the tank 100km, from northern nsw to Brisbane. I do have a big trailer to do the job. Any tips people would like to give me I'd very much appreciate. What to put under it. How to strap it down. In short, how to do the job without breaking/weakening the tank. Regards Jono. Ps if anyone's interested in any of the fish, feel free to pm me. I'll probably be bringing then to Brisbane this Sunday.
