  1. I am setting up a 3 X 15 X 18 African display tank in my lounge soon and am considering filtration options. Tank will mainly hold peacocks and such, just the standard Malawi colour display on a smaller scale than I would like Obviously I would like to maintain my water as clear and healthy as possible, without making too much noise. At the same time I also want minimal impact on the viewing area by equipment as it is only a small tank to begin with. What are people's thoughts regarding a sump vs a canister? I had also wondered if imposed a sump about a refugium with some plants/shrimp but as it turns out I only have very little space (2ft) for a sump that space would probably be better utilised for media. Any suggestions greatly appreciated Cheers Gary
  2. Just wondering how people would plumb this rack if it was there's not sure weather to go 1 x 32mm overflow at the top in the middle of each tank and 2 x 20mm returns above the tank. Or 2 x 25mm overflows in each corner and 1 x 20 mm return at the top in the middle of the tank through a 20mm bulkhead any advise and pictures would be nice
  3. Hi, I recently bought an aquarium and would like some advice on how to stock it. I like the look of cichlids but want it to be a planted aquarium, any tips? I am leaning towards picking discus.

  5. just wondering some options for a background for a very large tank 10ft x 2ft x 30in h. a latex ones to expensive for a tank that size. diy is a risk , one hell of a mess to rip out if i dont like it. And im not sure what sort of a life you would get out of one ???. I have plenty of access to good rock but i need to be careful of weight. as it is tank ,sump and stand will be around 2 ton!!!!. anyone got any ideas??? i was thinking of trying to make some fake rock using sand cement and bean bag beans to reduce the weight factor. im suffering from info overload and cant find an answer???????????
  6. I am in the process of converting my Aqua One Aquastyle 500 tank into a nano marine. I am not planning on keeping SPS corals or anything that light needy, but I'd like to have the ability to keep a decent range of stuff. My problem is deciding what to do for lighting, I need to keep the lid on the tank so if I go LED it will need to be retrofitted into the space in the hood where the current lighting resides. I just can't decide if I should bother retrofitting LEDs from somewhere like Aquastyle Online or if the 22 watts worth of compact lighting will be enough for my needs....
  7. Hey all I haven't got access to a lot of suitable shells up here and I've heard corner PVC with a cap works. What do you calvus guys use. Cheers Marty.
  8. Hi Guys, After reading about adamski's heart break during the week, I don't want to be in the same situation. I do have a battery powered pump but I would like something that is going to kick in if we get a black out while I am at work or if I'm sleeping. Just wondering if anyone else uses a UPS for a backup power supply during outages. If so, what size/brand would people reccomend to run 2 x 2217's, 1 x Precision SR9500. I was hoping to have about up to 8hrs run time. Any suggestions? Cheers Trav
  9. Hi guys, I have an odd shaped tank that I want to grow plants in. It's 55cm high, 50cm long and 45cm wide. I'm just wondering what commercially available lighting options i have with a tank this size? I want something that will sit across the top length ways. Is there anything available that is 50cm long or something 18" long that can extend to 20" ? I have had a bit of a look but no luck yet. Thanks in advance, Beau.
  10. hey all, recently brought a 4x2x2, just wondering what suggestion everyone else has. More of a native person and more than one fish would be better. Already have rainbows. Cheers Matt.

  12. Hi I have a 790 cm wide tank customized to suit a table. I'm hunting for 4x t5 light housing with brackets that sit on the tank edge. As hanging wouldn't be an option, I can't seem to find any aus stock that carries 30" length lighting. Is there any out there that comes with adjustable bracket that could reach that length? I woulddnt want the housing to sit on top of the tank directly but rather on a stand itself for esthetics reason. What I had found out : - Hagen glo extendable but only 2x t5 system - aqualina 600mm with brackets. The brackets look long but Im not sure if thatcan reach 31". Can someone assist to measure the length from tip of the bracket to the other end with the housing.
  13. Hi all, I am setting up a 3.5' planted tank at the moment and am upto choosing a gravel. At the moment I am looking at the Aquaone black silica 1mm sand as I have heard good things about it. I was wondering if anyone might be able to suggest another good looking black gravel that will be suitable for a planted tank stocking drawf cichlids. OR feel free to steer me straight with an alternative gravel you think is awesome. Thanks VegasMick
