Been just over a year since my dad passed, who handed the tank over to us. Since then we spent alot of time just making sure that nothing died and that everything was happy. Well 2 dead discus.. (runts) later.. and we are happy with changing the tank! Dad always hated substrate (other than fine river sand) as he would say "thats where the worms and bugs live"... But we (my husband and I) have loved seeing planted tanks, ones with 'grass' and plants that are thriving! So thanks to @EvilCheif we got 2 bags of ADA Amazonia and our "Planted in soil" adventure began! We learnt from Evilcheifs mistake... that we needed to empty the tank and start from the bottom up... laying the soil and planting before adding the fish back in (after 2-3weeks of plant growth and substrate settling). So a 3ft later and we have a holiday house whilst the main display gets done (new peppermint Grow tank!) Ill update photos as it grows! *Top left photo - Temporary home top 3ft. housing unhappy discus.. a fanning male Pep (who doesnt even realize hes moved 1mtre across the room.) Clown Loaches, and neons.. Tank underneath is the peppermint fry holding tank at the moment.. (They are for sale in the catfish section of the forum) ** Top Right photo - Tank before anything happened. Plants were planted in soil dug from the yard and potted in old glass candle holders and pots.. .. haha yeah back when I didnt know about the nasties dirt could hold... *Bottom Right - THE MALE BRED WITHOUT TELLING ME! DAMN he must have sneaked off and raised some fry out of the log (he did have a 3week break from the log..).. as these guys are tiny!
