1. Going to head down to Mitre 10 tomorrow and grab a bag of Richgro Play Sand to put in the bottom of the smaller bathtub I have, just going to use this tub as a nursery grow tub, just put cuttings of this and that in there and let them grow, also store other plants that I have to put in the bathtub to come, will this sand be OK, I know to wash it a lot before hand as well.
2. OK you have just been given the most perfect 6x2x2 tank ever created. Your mission is to pimp it out in pure awesome, all while spending under 200 million dollars Australian. Choose your filtration, lighting, heating, ornaments, fish, stand..... EVERYTHING. You get one 6x2x2 tank post in this thread, you can edit it as much as you like. Lets see peoples dreams, taste and ideas. *yes a lol will be given for a creative answer.... but end of the day you fail the thread if you post here and dont list an actual 6x2x2 tank setup as well.
3. Just wondering if anyone knows of Richgro's Washed Play Sand from Bunnings is OK to use in a fresh water Australian native tank, has anyone used it or knows if it's suitable? Also, I have some left over ADA Amazonia Soil, could I use that as a bottom layer then place sand over the top, then planted Vallisneria nana and other native Australian plants? Would it be suitable for Spotted Blue Eyes as well as some native shrimp? Cheers.
4. I said to PETFISH that I would not mind doing a little aquascape and that is all it took to put a twinkle in his eye and he was keen. We got the orders sorted for the day and time for a play. I thought a little cube might be fun to have a play with. Before I knew it he had some rock sorted - Seiryu. I grabbed a cube and said I would not mind popping in a background in this one so we decided on the Universal Rocks Basalt and he had the dimensions cut in a flash. We were tossing up between attaching a Ista Canister and hanging it on the back but decided to go with a Ista hang on filter. Rather than an ADA soil we chose to go with Up Aqua 5kg Shrimp soil. Plants we went with Hairgrass, Blaxya, Glosso and some HC. As much as like the Azoo Flex light we ended up going with the Ista Cree light. In an hour to a hour and a half it was sorted and complete. First Step was to have the background in place add the soil and add a little water in the low iron Skylight 30cm cube. Put in the Hairgrass at the back and add the 3 Seiryu rocks Added the Glosso, Blaxya, and HC - oh and the plastic bag with air in it was just to help with the adding of the water so it would not disturb the soil. Pete wanted to break up the HC a little more but I was just wanted to get it in - Pete now calls me Mr Instant as I like to get it done quickly - he likes to break it up and watch it grow and spread. Uncle Pete putting the finishing touches.... Thought the CO2 line was a bit obvious so thought I would pop a little subwassertang around it to help blend in and when it was time to leave 2 hours later it was looking like this - and no the soil was not washed either. I so hate my job.....

6. So... t.p was away washing her driftwood she got from presto. So my first instict was to naturally redecorate her tank while she wasn't looking. I won't go into the details of her and I trying to set up her new canister filter from AoA. I'll let her inform you guys of something she did with her own tanks and fish. Here are the results of my tampering (please understand there was a time crunch and I'm slightly vertically impared). Her tank full view. Her pearls (?) I am not a cichlid person so please correct me if I'm wrong. The convict (Turk) and Juliana the Oscar. *please note this was all with her consent I don't just mess with people's tanks as a hobby. 10. I am setting up a new tank being a 6x2x2 and wanted a sand substrate rather than the usual boring gravel. After reading forums till i went blind i was torn between two different types the Bunnings play sand and a Triple washed white sand from my local nursery I grabbed a 20 kg bag of each and washed them and let them sit for an hour or so then i would test the PH levels of each. I am using the API Fresh Water Master test kit I did a base line on the mains water and it came back as 7.2 I then tested the triple washed sand and it came in at around 7.0 I tested the Bunnings play sand and that went blue within a second being 7.6, i thought maybe i should run the PH high test and that came back an 8.4:confused: What are your thoughts?

21. Hi, I have been suggested using play sand from bunnings warehouse as a substrate for my new setup. Would this be ideal? It is much cheaper than substrate bought from aquariums. I am looking to put Africans in my new setup, and most likely no plants. Any help would be great, I plan to buy this weekend. Thanks

23. hey all, have got a colony of e/yellows in my main tank along with a trio of maingano. the colony of e/yellows consists of 3m/1f/6juv. The female e/yellow today had her vent protruding and as she was chased by another male an egg fell out. only problem is that none of the males want anything to do with her... i understand i need to remove more males and this may be the cause, but i was wondering was there any other causes which could contribute to this kind of behaviour... normally its the males who are always keen? thanks, trent
