  1. Hi everyone, Have just ordered a Laguna 2000 pump, rated at 7,600 LPH, it replaces my Tunze 3000 LPH in my 700 Ltr tank + 200 Ltr sump. It runs with just under 1.5 meter head, so expecting around 6,000 LPH throughput. Hagen/Laguna state it is suitable for 19/25/32/38 mm fittings. My intention is to make a dedicated PVC pipe return line, not wanting to risk using hose this time round, if possible. But I dont know what the 'ideal' size pipe to get. I suspect 25 or 32. Would running it with 19 or 38 place extra load on the pump? 38 seems like a lot of weight for it to lift, 19 seems like a lot of speed for that flow rate. Is their a formula to work out an 'ideal' pipe size for any given pump? It is good of Laguna to say what size pipes 'can' be used, I just wish I knew which size is 'best' to use. Any advice or tips are appreciated. Cheers.
  2. I already threw out the warranty. Ok so despite the high price I thought I'd buy an 100 eheim air pump for the promise of a quiet air pump. After about 8 months the outlet was half of what it was so I took it apart today to see if I could see the trouble. Put it back together and blasted thing is a jack hammer and hardly works. My advice to people is don't buy ehiem air pumps. Is this well known?
  3. Hi all, sorry if this info is already on here, I tried searching but didn't find what I was after. I'm setting up some grow out tanks in my garage that I want to run on air sponges but I can't find any info on how much air I need to drive them. Does 1L of air per min move 1L of water per min. I have been keeping tropicals for about 10 years but always on canisters so I don't have any experience with sponges. thanks.
  4. Hi, could anyone help me out in suggesting a air ran sponge filter and air pump please, have ordered a mid range priced canister to play with but am also interested in perhaps using an air sponge set up instead of the canister for a 45l tank which will eventually house a smallish group of Spotted Blue Eyes, Peacock Gudgeons and Glass Shrimp, planted lightly with Vallisneria nana, Lilaeopsis brisbanica, Native Penny Wort in natural aquarium gravel, thanks.
  5. Woke up today to find my serenity swp4000 sump pump running very slow, water barely trickling into the overflow. took it out, cleaned up the pre filter (which wasnt very dirty but did it anyway) had a look at the impeller and everything seemed ok. Re-plumbed it, plugged it in and it tripped everything out. had to break out a spare canister for the time being (which isnt cycled so its running with no media from sump to tank). I recently changed the return piping basically being 2 hard 90 degree elbows to reduce footprint of return on top of the tank; is this likely my downfall? Too much restriction on the return line? Using bunnings 19mm irrigation hose with the pope 90 degree eblows, all clamped on.
  6. Was just thinking, would you be able to run one of those single or double sponge filters through a solar air pump? Would it be strong enough?
  7. Can someone help me understand what sized air pump i need? My set up is going to be 6-8 nano tanks, each is almost exact 10 litres on 2 racks (4 on top and 2-4 below). Im using ATI Hydro sponge filters in the mini size for all the tanks and want all of them to run off the 1 air pump with a gang valve to split everything. At the moment im using my TetraTec ASP100 but even though it seems to work, water flow isnt great- this model does say its for 50-100L but i dont know what its LPM rating is. How many litres per minute does a pump need to be rated at for this sized nano tank to give sufficient filtration?
  8. I am looking at installing a sump for my 680 litre tanganyikan tank. Three or four foot sump. So looking at a Laguna 1350, 5000 litres per hour. Any other suggestions?

  13. Hello guys and gals, got a question for ya. As I was leaving for work this morning I did my usual round of my fish tanks, saying morning/goodbye etc like every sad w@#$%r does. However, this morning I noticed that none of my sponges/air stones were working. Looks like my diaphragm has finally packed in as I can hear the air pump humming but the air output was low. I didn’t have time to change it and am not likely able to do anything about it until tomorrow. All the tanks are plumbed to a 6x2 sump that contains copious amounts of media, including Marine Pure, Matrix and K1. I have a lot of surface agitation in the tanks and have turned on all the wavemakers to provide extra circulation. All the water parameters are good (Am 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 PH 8.2) and the temp is 24. So my question is simply, should I be concerned I have no air going through the tanks or am I good seeing as I have a well-stocked sump and surface agitation for oxygen exchange? Thanks in advance…
  14. Hello. I am in the process of setting up my new tank. 8x2.5x2.5 with a 4ft sump. I'm wanting to flow around 8,000lph. I was also thinking of running the pump external. Can anyone recommend a decent brand? Im looking at the new Vectra pump. Vectra M1 and L1 pump specs, pricing and availability announced
  15. Hey all is the aqua one presicion 7500 twin output strong enough to power two sponge filters?
  16. Hi Guys. I have this resun 4 outlet air pump, and for some reason its only blowing air outta the 3 outlets? Its only about 6 months old. Can you pull the pump apart to see whats goin on? I think it still could be under warranty...
  17. Hi guys, after some advice on what would be an appropriate sized air pump to run up 24 sponge filters. I'm after something quiet and very reliable. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi. I'm not sure if this is in the right spot but guess DIY covers repairs so here goes... I have a couple air pumps needing replacement diaphrams. I've managed to find and fit some, no problems. Where I am coming unstuck though is on trying to tension the bolt at the top of the diaphram, which connects to the magnet arm. Does anyone know of a technique or any tricks, tips etc for doing it? Blowing bubbles in a bucket doesn't really help much and adding air stones and tweaking while trying not to get wet and/or zapped... gotta be a better way? Cheers.
  19. Hey guys, sorry I know similar things have been posted before, but theyre been for different sized tanks. I have a 8x2x2 american cichlid tank that is light to moderately stocked at present, but I am growing up more cichlids to move in. The sump is 6x1.5x1.5ft with mesh filter socks and fine filter wool replaced every few days as required, a thicker sponge, and 25kg of ceramic rings. I am considering getting k1 but havent made my mind up there. At the moment it is running a small eheim pump but the volume is far from adequate- it is just coping now. I was thinking maybe 10,000lph flow rate and was considering a laguna pump. I have a smaller one running on my turtle setup and it has been running for years 24/7 never a single hiccup so I am quite happy with it. Open to suggestions though. Summary- is 10,000lph a good flow rate for this setup, with 2 bulkheads draining out of the tank and one return. and recommendations on pump? Laguna, aquael (electronic flow rate adjustment or no? Admittedly the aquael plus version is sorta out of my price range.. could make the stretch if I had to but the $350 for the laguna or slightly cheaper standard aquael is more within reach. http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/catalogue_products.php?prodID=4236&catID=13 http://www.thetechden.com.au/Aquael_Aquajet_PFN_10000_p/103351.htm http://www.thetechden.com.au/Aquael_Aquajet_PFN_10_000_p/111502.htm
  20. Hey guys looking to get a bigger pump for a system. Sadly I can't use Laguna as I am aiming for 20,000 / 25,000 lph. I was mainly wondering if anyone has used one of the aquanova pumps off age of aquariums ? The 20,000lph looks pretty good wattage wise and head height plus the price is very nice. I am a bit unsure as every pump but my lagunas has died on me. The aquael look good also but the price is a bit dear if they last I may consider it... I am hoping the aquanovas are decent though...more money for fish . I do find the rated draws quite off aquanovas 20k uses 200w where as the aquael with an extra 5k is using 150w more alone,ok they do rate it at 0.5head more too.. seems a bit odd though ? Any ideas?
  21. hello everyone --- I need help with the selection of a air pump --- any ideas on which one is the quietest to run about 8 internal foam aerators.
  22. ..We received an offer for some of the Aquael Pond Filters and Pond Systems and we just had to jump on these. Due to the price we got them for, we are taking 30% off and you still get your QLDAF discount off that again! To give you an idea just how good these prices are do a google search on the Aquael Klarjet 15000 and compare the prices. The Klarjet 15000 is designed for ponds up to 15000 liters - it comes with a Aquael PFN 7500 pump (we normally sell this for $219 by itself) and a massive filter box 52x100x75cm with media and also includes a 11 watt UV and comes with a 2 Year Warranty. By the time you take off all the discounts - the QLDAF Member Price ends up a bargain price of $472.50 With a bit of thought you might find these useful with IBC's too. Anyway - here is the link to all the specials so check them out... Aquael Pond Filters
