  4. :whyme: Yesterday I went to view a tank that was for sale, the owner hadn't done a water change since February this year so decided to do one before i arrived. When i arrived all the fish in the tank were half way to death; most plecos were dead already, including a decent sized tiger pleco which broke my heart to scoop up. I was in shock... i instantly started interogating him as to how this could have happened, i still dont know the truth. the water was freezing and who knows what was contaminated before cleaning the tank. :worry: The man said he couldn't care less about the fish, so began the rescue; so i bucketed them up right away and took them home praying i could save some! :sweatdrop: The problem i have now is with the discolouration in their eyes, their eyes have all gone misty, does anyone know how/or why this happens? ive heard it could be the dirty water conditions Is there any advise anyone can give me??? I have 1 large pleco and 1 large bristlenose still struggling but not gone yet!!! Ive got milafix in the tank now and i have stocked up on some more cichlid gold too with the 6 new arrivals after a little research i think i am going down to the local produce to see what else they have that can help cause im scared they have worms/parasite or disease, as I put them straight in with my other healthy flowerhorn. I have since sanctioned him off to avoid him bullying/stressing the newbies. Any feedback would be very much appreciated!!! I feel so sorry for the fish and want to turn their fortune around :soppy:

  6. I have been reading post and threads on this and other sites that are concerned with introduced hybrids and others that have been carelessly been introduced into our rivers/dams and water ways. I too am concerend aboutthis and find that there is a hell of alot of talk and some great discusions however there seems to be little to no resolve or solution to this ever growing problem. I was wondering what peoples thoughts where on how we as aquarist could try and curve the trend of fish dumping and try and cut down the amount of ferral/ foriegn fish into our waters. I am also a keen fisherman (was ) I was also a member of local fishing clubs and as a member of such clubs we would have a ferral fish comp once every year to try and help cull the amount of introduced nasties. My sugestion is that why dont we try and offer a type of pound/ rescue place/places that could take unwanted fish and for those who do set up such drop off places aquarist like ourselves that are concerened and want to be pro active can donate either equipment or contribute to running costs. I am keen to hear if there are any of these facilitys running in aus or if anyone else thinks that this could be a good idea? I would love some feed back as I have seen these type of rescue places in the USA,CANADA and all over the world but I have not seen any Australian yet. Thanks guys and girls and I am keen to hear what your thoughts are. Johno
  7. I rescued these (there are a few more not pictured) from a freezing tank as teeny tiny fry, their parents and siblings had already succumbed to the cold sadly. They've grown up now and breeding like bunnies!!
