  4. .Just wanted to sing the praise of these skimmers for a bit. Dam I love them! EASY to tune in. Rips out filth from even the cleanest looking water. Breaks in nice and fast. Reliable and robust. Powerful and under estimated in its abilities. Ridiculously good looking. Great value for money. I have used so many skimmers in my day. Lost countless hours stuffing around with them. Infact more than any piece of tech, they have frustrated and angered me. So just a thread giving a nod of respect to this one. A lot have now been sold in Australia, and they have proven themselves over the last few years. Set up another one today. So easy. luv it!

  6. 15 years of experiments with not just algae and I am done, back to the old trendy ways along with what I have created. This little 200 litre $22 cheapy that goes either on the side or in the water is the first skimmer for me in nearly 30 years and this time I will not make another one like in the past. I like it. Not just because it cheap but because it has identical functions to the last one i made. The venturi set up is near the same as what I made out of a pen and conduit and the tubulating of bubbles, I like it! The skim had strong colour in les then 30 minutes ,that’s not bad! It goes at the end of my system to get the most benefits to be just on for a couple of days per week like I use to do, along with the reactor that I did bother to make. It has bio cubes that I got for $52 then the next lot was half that price, that should be enough for a couple of years. It goes at the base of the reactor for the highly oxygenated waters from the cascaded area, then phos killer, then carbon, that should hold all my waters once i connect up the tubs as well.

  11. Hi I have just bought a Skimz SM 161 (drooollllll) and I have the predicament in that I want to place it in the first section of my sump in which the water level is about 90mm above that recommended by Skimz. My main reason for putting it in the overflow section is so it is the first port of call in regards to my filtration. I unfortunatly don't have the luxury of putting it on a stand to raise it out of the water. So the only other option I can see is to move it into my retun pump section as I can adjust the water level in here quite easily and enough to have the skimmer run efficiently. However in doing this the water will first be going through a refugium and mechanical (filter floss) filteraton. Alternatively I can drill some holes in the final divider to drop the water level right down, this is obviously undesirable to loose so much water volume. Has anyone got their skimmer in the return section of their sump or does anyone have an opinion on this matter? Any suggestions will be welcomed. Paul

  14. So, just set up my skimmer this evening and have question. I have it running at the moment and on the outlet pipe, there is a tap. What is the purpose of this tap? I have played with it and all it seems to do is adjust the height of the water in the skimmer. Am I meant to have the water at a certain height? Thanks for any help. Cheers
