  7. I am completely over people taking culls or low grade that are handed around and selling at a profit elsewhere. This practice is far too common and people praise Facebook and Gumtree when people buy culls from here and sell on those places. These people are not good for the hobby. I have two possible rule changes: 1. Anyone found buying culls or low quality fry from here and selling elsewhere will be banned from trader. 2. Anyone found buying and selling fry to make a profit from members will be banned. At the moment I do not concern myself with the going's on elsewhere, but I am starting to feel that it makes the forum complacent in allowing trading of low quality fish to the ignorant masses on Facebook and Gumtree. I think I prefer option 1 as it is clear a misrepresentation, and there are times members want to clear a tank for various reasons..... I do not want to make things difficult for the volume quality breeders who want to move bulk fish, but am tired of the ongoing misrepresentation by various sellers on Facebook and Gumtree on selling poor quality fish from here.
  8. Quick Special - Sera O-Nip - 100 Tabs - Be quick, not expecting this special to last long at this price.... Sera O-nip consists of compressed flakes and freeze dried whole organisms such as krill, bloodworms, Tubifex or Gammarus. You can watch the fish eating when slightly pressing the tablet to the aquarium glass from the inside. The food tablets are readily accepted as a special delicacy by almost all fish. Also suitable for catfish and loaches. https://www.thetechden.com.au/dealoftheday.asp
  9. Hey everyone, I am new to owning an aquarium, so far i had cycled my tank and i have introduced 2 new fish, a Red Terror cichlid, aswell as a Oscar cichlid. Orignally they were in my first tank which is a 2.5ft (90L) and i was getting some advice from my cousin, knowing i had to upgrade tanks to keep them about 4 days after getting these fish i had gotten a 4ftx2ftx2ft and it holds 450 liters, i was just wondering if it is safe to keep these 2 fish in the same tank? i have some terracotta pots for them to use as protection, at first the RT would nip at my oscar, but since changing to my new tank (2 days ago) it seems he hasnt been attacking him. but im not so sure if i can keep them in the same tank especially when they get bigger. My RT is almost always hiding under his pot but recently started coming out, and everytime i feed them my oscar will eat rarely with me watching, and my RT never seems to eat, i leave floating pellets in there at night and morning but im never sure if he eats, i have tried sinking pellets but he doesnt even go for them just watches them sink, is there anything wrong? or are they still frightened after moving? Thanks, Travis

  11. Ok, I have done a summary of the project. Personally I would like to see these moved from sticky threads as they are pretty dead. see below. I do however think they are a great idea, but perhaps need a bit more thought into the execution & clarity to see future projects survive & prosper. I would be keen to see a new group of projects launched & this also might breath some life into the species specific sections...? I myself would prefer a more varied species list, all the Malawi's were mbuna. Nothing wrong with it just saying, and the Tangs seemed to be out of everybodys reach. or maybe that is the point of the 'rare' project, everybody wants some but few have the $$... 13. I'm going to give a mate an old tank with the works (heaters, filters etc) but i need to establish the filters im going to give him first. Game plan is to wack it all in my tank first, then give him my water so its up and running and don't need to go though the cycle. My question is how long do i wait so the filters will run by themselves in the new tank? I know that there isn't an exact amswer so im chasing more of days/weeks type of numbers. Thanks
  14. Just did a little cleaning up of the top tank cause I have not cleaned the glass in 3 months and to see what was happening in there was impossible. The whole thing was a mess, blue alga growing everywhere; well now I know that species is invasive, lol, not hard to get it back to tidy but still it was growing real fast. While is was cleaning up, the hammer retracted and there was a new one hidden under the polyps of the big one, it was just attached and only needed a little twist to snap it off, now there are more hammers in the tank, one small and cute. Big one where the little one came from little one

  18. Ok guys here goes. Does anyone think it would be safe to treat straight rain water with pool chlorine, let it "age" for 24 hours with a small powerhead circulating the water, then treat the water with a dechlorinator?

  22. hey guys trying to nut out a stock-list for my new 600 lt tank. I need to buy substrate for the tank but need to work my stock-list out first Tangs have intrigued me for the colours, behavior and somewhat resemblance to our Aussie reef fish. A bit about me, i'd say semi experienced fish keeper. Have had Americans, Malawi's, Natives, and a hugely stocked tropical aquariums. Ive got a few hours a week to put into a tank, can operate an API test kit like a champion, I'm no Lance Armstrong but i can cycle a tank (bad Fish-keeper dad joke...) The more i look into Tangs the more i like but the more i get confused. So keeping in mind this is a display only tank. What would your goto species be? budget of up-to 1k on livestock Thanks in Advance Bryan
  23. Hey guys, i have a colony of about 19 fuelleborni with 4 males and 15 females. They are still heaps small, like 4.5cm, i was shocked to come home from europe to see 2 holding. What should i do? Strip or let the cichlid spit and wait until they are bigger before breeding. I didnt think they wud breed this fast. Ive bred salousi before but they havnt bred this fast. What are your thoughts and advice? Cheers. Ben the cichlid lover.
